Raw and remote.  That pretty much sums up the Tuamotu archipelago.  It’s easily one of our top 5 sailing destinations in the world.  Pristine waters, abundant marine life, and just outside of the hurricane zone.  Sailing here on our own boat was a dream (and one we hope to repeat).  But until then, we are doing the next best thing.  Sailing with friends!

But Fakarava is waaaaay out here, and it’s a coral atoll.  Meaning there isn’t much in the form of supplies, and fertile soil for growing food is minimal.  Locals have to be self-sufficient because survival this far from the mainland requires great planning and patients.  Today you’ll get a little taste of what it’s like to go on a supply mission to one of the most remote islands in the world.

Plus, we test some new cameras and have the most gorgeous champagne sail to our favorite dive spot of all time.  Sharks, sharks, and more sharks.  Hundreds of them!  So put on your flippers and jump in!

________

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.

We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It’s all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

We’ve lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

  1. it would be amazing if u add the name of the fishes u see underwater , most of them are recognaizable outside of water but hard to tell below for some unexperieced folks like me 😀 just a thought 🙂

  2. As a beginning YouTuber, I'm using a stone-age era DJI OSMO Mobile with a 2nd gen. iPhone SE. The results are really, really good. DJI makes good stuff, whether it be gimbals, cameras or drones. Big love here.

  3. When Nikki was facing into the sun she was very washed out, but in all other shots, the PL8 was the clear winner.

  4. dont like the 8.. it makes everyone look like a umpalumpa.. everyone is orange. lol I do love all the vids been watching since beginning.. keep it up. Cant wait to see new boat.

  5. That is such a beautiful boat and the speed and grace as it moves through the water is just wonderful.

  6. 🥂 sailing and diving.. can life get anny better then that? Loved this video…and just booked a new sailing holiday!

  7. This really puts into perspective just how lucky we are in the States are compared to remote places like Fakarava, and we should be thankful regardless for what we have. In McMurdo Station, Antarctica, they get one ship a YEAR for food shipments to the base to feed the researchers. This means because they're stuck with whatever they got from that one shipment, they end up recycling food and serving it as leftovers. That also includes serving expired food because well, when you're in a remote place like Antarctica…an expiration date is just a suggestion. And the researchers need a huge number of calories to work out in harsh temperatures

  8. Nauru is in a similar situation as Fakarava, but much worse. They are the world's smallest island state. Less than 20 percent of Nauru's land is suitable for agricultural production, which is because most of Nauru's land was mined for phosphate. This phosphate actually made Nauru the world's richest country at one point in the 80s. But this industry collapsed in the early 2000s because the phosphate ran out. Now they have to rely on Australian aid, getting shipments of canned goods, resulting in an increase in the weight of their people (highest rate in the world), as well as housing an Australian asylum seeker detention centre in exchange for said aid.

  9. What brand and type are the new Osmo Action 3 filters. An Amazon link would be great.

  10. underwater spots were nice, the subject matter fantastic and the film quality, at times looked like it was in 3D. So groovy.

  11. Yes, YES, yes… absolutely ahhhhhhsome to DIVE back into the ocean with you and see the undersea world! Thank you for taking us along on your adventure to visit the sharks, fish, coral reef, and all the awe-inspiring creatures of the sea. We watched in complete wonderment and awe! And… Ticket To Ride looks like an incredible sailing home, and Mary Grace & Frank wonderful people! Awesome video episode adventure! As always, we are excited to watch all of your adventures!

  12. I am curious to know what the people on these islands do? I am what is their source of revenue to be able to afford everything that is an import? Why would they stay so far away on an island that doesn't have as much in resources.

  13. The osmo looks pretty good below water but it looks like on a sunny day with harsh shadows, the dynamic range can’t handle above water

  14. So…. where is this? I gathered that the supply ship comes French Polynesia so that narrows it down to like four million square kilometres of ocean….
