We are SO HAPPY we didn't grow sweet corn!

In todays video we are showing you how our Danny Corn turned out from the garden this year. Instead of growing sweet corn we decided to grow a dry corn variety and boy are we glad we did!

****** About Living Traditions Homestead ******

Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

We put out 2 new videos every week! Wednesday and Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we give up the rat race and live simpler, more fulfilling life in the country.

  1. I was surprised that you used a pyrex dish vs iron skillet. Nothing better than cornbread in an iron skillet. I am in GA and was raised to never use sugar in cornbread, we call that cake LOL.

  2. So happy for y'all love the new house we are looking for something similar to put on our other property. Enjoy your new beautiful home. Kevin made a video on how to make English muffins. We tried the recipe and we love it and make them all the time in the fall and winter months.

  3. Hi Sarah, I don't use fresh corn meal only store bought. QUESTION: My cornbread always seems too dry. Is there a way that I can get a copy of your recipe? Thank you for all you guys to and share.

  4. Just a safety tip when shelling ears of corn in that style sheller. Use the next ear to push the one you are shelling. We had a 2" dowel about 10" long for the last ear. I shelled literally hundreds of bushels of corn for the chickens as a youth. It's best to be safe!

  5. We grew some sweet corn and enjoyed a few meals. I'd love to try doing the 3 sister's with the grandkids, popcorn, squash, and pole beans. Popcorn makes great corn meal.

  6. Thanks for sharing the old corn tool. I can't figure out how it spit the cob out the way it does and could watch that all day!

  7. Use the whole cob. Kernals to flour, husks for animal bedding compost or mulch, and use the cob for fire wood.

  8. I have seen several videos of these old corn shellers and the machine needs some maintenance as it does not grab the cob properly. I would guess tensioning spring is worn out. Do you guys use some of this corn for feed?

  9. Hey guys thanks… I have been doing it all wrong with my favorite cast iron pan… Now I know better. No more sugar in your cornbread please..lol

  10. Love it! You make me want to run out and buy a mill and some fresh whole dried corn 😉 Thanks for the recipe too – I will definitely try it. I recognized your blue oven when you opened it – I have similar, LG Dual Fuel – it's the best combination I think. Enjoy your new home and kitchen!!

  11. I fell in love with home ground/home grown corn for corn bread when I tried it for the first time last year! It truly is miles above store bought ingredients

  12. I give a friend of my husband extra sweet potatoes vines when they get too long. She gives them to her chickens and she shares her chickens eggs with us. Good trade off. Thanks Amanda 😄
