Get your DIY Potato & Sweet Potato Tower ready NOW! (Bittersweet) Winter Garden Prep Zone 5 Gardening
Bittersweet! | Putting the Garden to Bed for the Winter

It is late October here in zone 5 Wisconsin, and that means that we have a lot of work to do get get our various beds ready for the winter.

In this video, I will have you work along side me, and I prep our DIY vertical garden beds, mow and compost sweet potato vines, harvest seeds, and much more in preparation for the cold months ahead.

This is a bittersweet time because we are sad to have to end much of what we have been growing all summer and fall, but it is also nice to know that we are able to transition our gardening to our indoor growing area. That being said, there is still so much to do to be prepared, so please join us as we get some of that work done preparing the garden for winter.

Have a great day, and thank you for watching this video on preparing your garden for winter!

  1. I think with your next Vertical Sweet potato/potato bed, try chicken or hardware cloth the next time so the voles can’t get in.

  2. We've been having unseasonably warm weather as well but yesterday fall officially arrived for us

  3. Hey hey from iowaaaaay!
How do you know your hay doesn’t have Grazon? I want to use the straw from my chicken barn, but I’m afraid to do so.

  4. Indian Summer is in full effect here in Michigan as of today. Even though it snowed earlier in the week while I was raking a leaf covered front yard, and it's gotten down into the 20s several times overnight, our cardinal basil is still thriving after being left out totally unprotected, as is our last remaining butternut squash vine. That really shocked me, but I figure it must be microclimate related. Anywho, I can't believe it's almost November! A huge giant fordhook Swiss chard plant went to seed months ago, and it has produced a massive amount of seeds that are finally starting to dry up and turn brown, I'm guessing there are tens of thousands of seeds from just this one single plant.
