Leave the Leaves & Plant Debris | Support Insects & Overwintering Wildlife

We used to think that it was best to clean up the garden in the fall to remove any chance of overwintering pests and diseases. Now we know that leaving fallen leaves and garden debris for winter cover and habitat is one of the most valuable things you can do to support pollinators and other wildlife. One of the best decisions that gardeners can make to increase the diversity of wildlife on the land that they steward is to “leave the leaves.” In this video I explain.

  1. Great advise that I've been following for a couple of years now, especially with the leaves. I mow them off the lawn to break them down a bit then scatter among all the perennials and shrubs. Plus I have more than enough to make leaf mold for next years garden beds. Such an amazing and free resource. I've got all my neighbors giving me their leaves as well. They are not gardeners 😪but more for me.

  2. Maybe that's why they're called "Leaves" 🤔
and not "Rakes"~😝 Love the Solitary Bee tips, Joe!
Thank you for the knowledge you share!❤

  3. This is top notch advice I wish more people would do this. This video should be broadcast on all TV channel and social media outlets as a Public Service Announcement!
