I’m using old gym mats to create a mulch around large 20 gallon pots that I will be growing in this Spring. I am not sure if the gym mats will survive outside in the elements, but they were otherwise going to be thrown away and I figured it was best to attempt to upsize them instead of them going completely to waste. I’m very exciting about growing a vegetable garden (annual and perennial edibles) in my front yard! Front yard gardens are a little outside of the normal use, but I think it will be a great way to garden. Container garden for the front yard I think works really well in a suburban environment (unless there is a home owner’s association HOA! with rules against such things!)

  1. That's brilliant. What a score. I hope they hold up. I wonder if a layer of shade cloth would help protect them from the sun?
I noticed the few perennials I moved with me started to peek out this week. It's always a happy and exciting moment to have tangible proof that we made it through winter and the fun stuff is back.

  2. Great idea. I think a lot more people will be looking to grow food in their front yard.
