Front Yard Garden

Autumn Planting & Transplanting & I’ve Killed One Of My Favourites 😱

This week I’m planting a lovely new hardy palm called a Chamaerops (common name European Fan Palm) moving my Euphorbia Ascot Rainbow & Verbena BonariensIs, cutting back Salvias & I’m very sad to say one of my ultimate favourites has died! My topiary Euonymus which I transplanted back in Spring hasn’t survived so I’ve had to dig it out completely and throw it away. Oh well, onwards and upwards 😊

Thank you to Neil at SenGreen for sending me the beautiful secateurs. I can highly recommend them, so if you’re looking to buy a new pair for yourself, here is the link to their page on Amazon:

  1. 30 years it is sad letting go ! You had a beautiful day to do cleanup! Congrats on hand clippers too. Leaves leaves and more leaves their color does accent your garden😉. Always look forward to seeing you enjoy gardening☺️

  2. Hi Janette, My garden bin didn't get emptied once because I'd put lawn edges in. The Council classed it as turf. I felt like a naughty school girl when they left a card circling why they'd refused to empty my bin. I too enjoy Paul's videos and have recently made two new gardening friends called Andrew and Paul on their channel "Mad about gardening". It's nice to be in contact with people who have the same hobby and I've always found that gardeners are generous with their knowledge. I always use your wonderful tip about pruning roses and now count down the leaves. Looks like you are getting the same lovely weather as me in Cheshire. Bye for now.

  3. Looking good Janette! I too did a big leaf clean up this past Sunday, and there are more to come. Waiting for the rest to fall. Hope you and Richard are doing well. 🤗🍂🍁

  4. Sorry you lost the euonymus, you'll have all winter to think about what to put there. I watch Paul too, he has a well rounded garden, little bit of everything.

  5. Smart clean up Janette. Sorry about your euonymus standard, it really was a statement piece. Paul T is a garden rockstar! Glad he was able to give you a bit of confidence in growing that beautiful palm. I love the color of the leaves from that maple(?) tree. It was cool hanging with you today!🤩🤩

  6. You’re behind in our climate, our zinnias been gone for few weeks now . They do say we are going to have a hard winter this year . It is colder already than other years . Oh . I do love how you said Vase , for your flowers arrangement, that’s why I enjoy watching your videos love the accent and hopefully learn it someday. That’s why you can’t quit YouTube lol .

  7. Hello 👋 Janette, I’m so happy to see you post again . I’m so sorry about your euonymus😞. I remember when you moved it from its original location, and it’s such a shame that it didn’t flourish. On a happy note, love your new palm plant💚it will look great there. Richard will be so happy the disco ball is gone😂. Congrats on the new pruners, that was nice of the co. to send them out. It’s the season, leaves 🍁😝

  8. Aww rip little Euonymus, it's always sad when they finally give up, but your right to remove him. I've hung on to many struggling specimens and they just look weary. Have learnt to be ruthless now.

  9. I've been in a rut with my garden but this video has made me want to get back out there! Thanks Janette!

  10. Fall (and spring) cleanup is so satisfying! That's a shame about the euonomous…but on the bright side, you now have an opportunity to add a new plant 😃

  11. I'm glad to see someone doing fall clean-up. I need to work on my garden this weekend, it's a mess! I have plants to move and cut back also. Sorry about your Euonymus topiary!

  12. Good job cleaning up I did some today and planted some bulbs run out of compost so can’t do any in tubs yet will. Take a look at Paul T happy gardening

  13. Hello Janette. What a beautiful day to be out in the garden, chopping your plants down and chopping the to do list down with great fun! Raking leaves is such an endless job until the last one falls. Also I know how I am anyway, if I sit down to enjoy the garden I won’t relax until things are done and in its place!😍🪴🍁❤️

  14. Hi Janette … another lovely treat for me to come home and find your video ❤ … I watch Paul T's world too … he lives close to me I think in the North West near the coast … he has a beautiful garden back and front .. lovely man . Sad about your eunonomous (cant spell it) hopefully u will be able to get another one. Wow all those leaves u have … ur very lucky … lovely leaf mold they will make . Make another vid soon … lovely to chat Janette … u are a lovely lady xx ❤

  15. Paul T is another favorite I've watched for some time now. His garden and filming is fantastic. And he's so knowledgeable. Wish he posted more often but I think he may travel for work. 😥 for your plant not making it but you'll get something nice in there surely.

  16. Hi! I planted a Euonymus this spring and it died also. I don't know what happened, I babied it all summer so I finally threw it away. I cleaned up today and blew some leaves down to the woods. The yard is full again! 😀 Have a great week!

  17. So sad about loosing that old tree. Hope you get yourself something nice to replace it with. This time of the year we have final sale in garden centers. The time of the year I do most purshases.😀👍

  18. Your European Fan Palm will do great, they are as tough as nails. Do you remember my one that poked its prongs through the snow that fell during the blizzard followed by the Artic blast…..it is still thriving, so highly recommended. Sad about the Euonymus but these things happen. I spent this morning sweeping up leaves but there are still loads more on the trees!

  19. Hi Janette, you certainly have your work cut out with the leaves. Loving the new plant. Shame about the euonymus. I follow Paul T too, lovely garden. Have a nice week 🌸🪴

  20. Nice that you gave a shout out to Paul T's World, whom I've been watching for about a year now. He has a lovely garden and I love his calm and pleasant voice. I think you two are the only English gardeners I watch. That's a lot of leaves to rake and that tree is still loaded! Enjoying these last weeks of Fall before the garden goes completely to sleep. As far as the euonymous, now you have an excuse to buy a new plant to replace it!

  21. There’s something very satisfying about the sound of the secateurs cutting through the old stems. I like seeing the garden looking neater at the end of the season. Shame about the Euonymus Janette but it happens – I suppose it’s all part of the gardening journey, accepting the losses as well as rejoicing over the successes. Enjoyed the video, thank you.

  22. I just love my British gardening friends, Janette (and Richard) and Paul T. Your gardens are lovely, your videos are quite informative and I get lots of inspiration from you! 💚

  23. Hi Janette, I thought that those amazing zinnias were going to last forever. How satisfying to have watched them grow from seed. So sad about your Euonymus but maybe you could plant a new one in its memory. Hope your little palm does well. I'd never seen Paul T before. Thanks for letter me know about his channel. Looks like there's still many leaves to fall from that beautiful tree outside your fence. They look so pretty decorating your garden. Hope I can be as productive in my garden this afternoon as you've been. Hope you and Richard have a happy week. Bron xx

  24. Love all of your videos. I find it very satisfying to work in my garden in fall. I like raking leaves and getting ready for bulb planting. Have a great week.

  25. Wow that tree sure drops leaves!!! So beautiful as well! Oh you are so lucky they sent you those pruners!! I go through pruners so fast i will look into those! Have a great weekend my pretty friend! 🧡❤️💜💙💚

  26. HortTube for fall cleanup or the Impatient Gardener. Dr. Doug Tallamy says to leave the leaves and cutback in spring to give caterpillars a home. I have a salvia garden! I let it go until spring before I cut it back. It comes back beautifully and attracts lots of pollinators. I deadhead and get more flowers all summer. I’m a PaulT fan too.
