Hi!
My name is Justin and I have my managed my family’s business (S&K Greenhouse) for the last 10 years! It is a local garden center in Shelby, NC that my family started around 25 years ago.

We have a strong desire to discuss and teach gardening to the online community and welcome anyone who wants to learn. Though we have been involved in the plant world for decades we have found that there is always something to learn when it comes to gardening.

Whether you are a master gardener or just starting out this channel is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!

  1. Thank you, thank you for this video. I have been trying to find an evergreen that I like for privacy. I like the texture of the Leyland Cypress but have been continuing searching for just the right evergreen. The Golden Hinokia is it. Its really beautiful and I love the Golden color. I want to plant them across the road edge of our property interspersed with White Spirea (Bridal Wreath) and Hot Pink Weigela. What do you think? White or Hot pink? You made me laugh again today from the git go. I'm glad you are good with a bit of levity. It makes things much more fun. Love it when you crack up and keep going. The world needs all the fun it can get. Cheers my Friend…..

  2. Anything that won’t take up a ton of width (less than 8-10ft) that gets above 15ft? Have a narrow area but need height to block out a tall neighbor. Zone 7b Charlotte, NC. American Pillar?

  3. A new subscriber! Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm with us. Would you consider sharing landscape design ideas with mixed screening plants? For typical suburban backyards? Thanks

  4. Awesome video! I have a green giant that has multiple trunks. Should I trim off the extra trunks?

  5. Thanks Justin! Another great, informative video!!! I am seriously considering the camellias now that you've showed us the blossoms. So pretty. 💞

  6. I have Camellias that are about 60 years old. They are giants, probably 20 ft tall and gorgeous! But my favorite screen trees are Tea Olives. Beautiful evergreens with fragrant white flowers in spring. Low maintenance and no pruning 🙂

  7. These videos would be so much better with out the Latin and science names of the trees. Tell us the regular names. No one here is going to use those in conversation.

  8. My daughter thinks you are so funny 😁! Lol! Me too! Thanks for sharing the info! I am in zone 7 & just planted Emerald Green Arborvitae trees. 1st time Gardner here!

  9. What happens if you plant leland cypress too close 6 to 8ft. Right now they are young. Should i dig up and respace or will they naturally adjust

  10. I’d love a video of the same nature but with plants that are under 10 feet. I want to make an enclosed garden but I don’t want it to turn into a shade garden. Maybe you know a couple varieties right off the top of your head?

I’ve thought about grasses too. It’s a new property so everything is wide open. I’m not sure the grass would stand with the wind.

We are on a hill with the house facing East. The garden is in the front beside the drive. It’s going to be 20-30’ wide x 22’ long. I haven’t actually measured the width but that’s about the area I need my privacy fence to go.

  11. Please help us!! We live in far NE Oklahoma, closest town is Langley. We have 5 acres of heavy clay. There's no way we can amend all of our soil. We're soggy in the spring, & get seriously hot (in the 100s) earth cracking droughts, all summer to fall. Unfortunately, we can't irrigate the areas where I need privacy trees. We are literally on the Zone 6b/7a line. I need something that grows fast, & isn't too expensive because I need 30 or 40 trees. What do you recommend? Thank You so much!

  12. Good Morning!! Thank you for this information!! This trees are beautiful and yes great for privacy!! love your videos. you're awesome!!👍🤗

  14. Hello!! I love watching your channel. I laugh every time I watch you. I will be needing good screening in my front yard. I also have hollies that I am going to take out. They are so invasive and to hard for me to handle. How do I get them out??? I have 2 varigated and 2 green. If you can please tell me how to get ride of them?? Then I'll be able to come and get my new trees. Thanks so much!!

  15. Hi there I need some advice! This spring I planted a limelight hydrangea hedge five feet from a fence and now I’m wishing I had evergreen behind it! Is it possible to squeeze in some green giant arborvitae behind them? 😯

  16. Not related to trees but need advice. I'm in Maryland zone seven ad I plan to use 5 gal. buckets for peppers. Tabascos, Cayennes, Jalapenos & Banana Peppers. I'm thinking one per bucket for the Bananas but not sure aboit the others. How many per bucket and still get a decent yield? Love your videos, have learned a lot from the way you do them.

  17. Brand new subscriber. Loving the videos I’ve seen so far!
I’m looking for something in the 4’ tall range and narrow. I have a 10’ wide area that needs some low privacy without blocking the view of my 10’ tall Japanese maples.

  18. YOU are a crazy and entertaining young man! Love your enthusiasm and knowledge about these privacy shrubs/trees! God Bless!!!
