Planting tomatoes for winter harvest.

Planting tomatoes in Fall? 🍅🍂 Yep…it feels weird, but we can’t do without fresh tomatoes now, can we? 🤪

I’m slowly filling up my grow tent and I’m trying to keep some tomato plants going for Fall/Winter. If you don’t have a grow tent, you can grow small tomato varieties and put them next to a sunny window (or use grow lights).

In the past, I’ve grown a few micro dwarf tomato varieties during Winter, and I’d like to share a few tips that I’ve learned:

🍅First I want you to know that unless you’re planting a whole lot of them (I mean like a whole lot), they’re not going to replace your summer tomato plants. You won’t get as many fruits. I do it for fun. 🥳 Personally, I like to keep nurturing edible plants no matter the season.

🍅Grow lights are useful but not necessary. If you have a sunny window, you can put your tomato plants right next to it. I didn’t use any grow lights last yr and my plants were still happy.

🍅You’ll def have a lot less pests indoors, but you’ll most likely encounter fungus gnats. Indoor plants usually don’t need as much water, so only water when the soil is drying out. I also use those yellow sticky traps (check my amazon link in my bio), and it helps reduce their population.

🍅Some of the micro dwarf varieties I’ve grown previously are Micro Dwarf, Orange Hat, and Yellow Canary. Tbh, micro dwarf tomatoes are pretty bland, but I keep growing them over and over bec they’re really cute. Orange Hat and Yellow Canary are quite similar in taste, but the Yellow Canary’s skin are a little softer so they’re currently my favorite.

Just have fun with them and don’t stress too much. They’re meant to nurture your soul as you nurture them during the cold and dark days of Winter. Soon enough, we’ll be sowing for Summer crops again.

*The plant in this reel is NOT a micro dwarf tomato – it’s meant for growing inside my grow tent under grow lights. You can check out the “Grow Tent” highlights in my profile to see my indoor growing journey so far.

Are you growing tomatoes this season?
