Created a large above ground pond, from a children's pool. Added a thick liner. Have it for 7 years. Works great, and no need to cut cement.
Lenny makes a great point about creating a sanctuary in our outdoor spaces. Sometimes, we gardeners get focused on crops, and forget the aesthetics of our gardens. When I became disabled, I realized that I needed resting places in my garden. So I could putter with my raised beds, and then sit down for a while. While I rested, I began to notice the insects and birds, squirrels, field mice, and rabbits, as well as the traces of nocturnal animals like raccoons and skunks. I began including plant and landscape features which encouraged the wildlife I wanted more of, such as planting more flowers to draw pollinators, and providing a small bird bath. Meanwhile, I had some interesting rocks arranged at the base of a wall, which the skunks had burrowed under, so when they tried to dig into my yard, the rocks would settle into the hole as they were digging. These small changes made my garden a beautiful, relaxing place.
Prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Love it! You are no closer to God as in the Garden! (garden of Eden). Men and Women were created to be in a garden tending it. That is Why it feels so good and relaxing. Don't forget the dog, ducks, geese, fish, rabbits, etc. It is a great exercise and so healthy for people.
