THANK YOU!

We are John, Tara, Crusoe and Sawyer Newby. A family of explorers who’s taken root in Northern Portugal where we’re renovating an abandoned farm into our dream off-grid homestead.

On and off, we have been traveling for over 20 years and have explored more than 160 of the world’s 193 countries, it’s been quite a journey, and now we are sharing our adventures weekly here on YouTube with new episodes EVERY SUNDAY.

BE BRAVE – THINK BIG – EXPLORE
Because we believe that lines across a map are more important than numbers in the bank.

Thanks so much for watching!!!

  1. OMGEEE.. I WAS LMAO!!! AS TARA WAS CRYING I WAS KRAKKIN UP. TOYOTA WHAT A GAGGLE OF A CAR COMPANY FAIL STICK SHIFT!!! SHAME ON YOU TOYOTA. I FEEL BAD BECAUSE SHES BEEN A TROOPER AFTER EVERYTHING RIGHT AFTER BECOMING A MOM AGAIN AND ALL THIS HOME ACTIVITY HAPPENING, SO I CAN TOTALLY UNDERSTAND, BUT IT SURE WAS UNEXPECTED…LOLOLOL. BE BLESSED YA ALL, AND LOOK AT THE GOOD IN THE BAD…. REMEMBER ITS BETTER WHEN IT BREAKS DOWN IN THE DRIVEWAY… RATHER THAN WHEN YOU HAVE THE BABY AND ARE STUCK IN A BUSY ROADWAY, AND JOHNS NOT NEAR. YA ALL ROCK!

  2. Aww Tara, you can get through this, you are a strong lady. Have a cry whenever you want. It really helps. I've shed a few tears this week too as I lost a dear friend. The renovation project is going so well, you've got this guys. Can't wait to see the start of the veggie garden, I have an allotment behind our farm and grow all our food. Crusoe gets more cute as every day goes by. Big hugs to the little man and Sawyer and of course big hugs and love to you both x

  3. Tara it is ok to feel overwhelmed, you have a lot on your plate and have just had a beautiful baby! Cruso is fabulous , John is great , try and keep your chin up , it is tough but remember you have so many friends whom you have never met sending so much love and moral support and many soothing hugs 🤗.
Take care, much love Catherine xxxx🤗🤗🤗🤗

  4. Tara is such a beautiful 🥰 Mom, Wife and I love her 💕💕🌹🌹🌹🌹, she loves herself, her beautiful boys and handsome Husband 🌹 and is always smiling and cheerful in her overalls! Do you agree with me about Tara ? Let's all tell her that we love her with a Red Rose and hearts to cheer her up not to give up🌹 💕💕💕🌹🌹🌹

  5. I think I may have found something to help you with the water challenge ..on you tube there is a video called ".We found water for our pond." -hydraulic ram pump

then you just need to filter it This will be much cheaper than getting a well dug.
    Hopefully this helps

  6. Tara don't be hard on yourself you've just had a baby. The hormones are probably all over the place and fair enough gear sticks are not suppost to do that. Positive note thank goodness you were stationary not driving.

  7. Hang in there guys!! Everything will get better ** Imagine 5 years from now and you look back at this moment, and everything will be so worth while. Best of luck with next steps!!

  8. Even if I don't know you in personal guys I feel so much love for your family. I pray for you. Keep smiling whatever life brings ❤❤❤

  9. HUGS!! FROM EAU CLAIRE, WISCONSIN USA. We have all had days like this and can so relate. The two of you and your sweet family are such a joy to watch and the amount of work you have already accomplish is amazing. Thanks for brightening my days with your lovely family.

  10. You have a healthy family and a roof and food, your okay , everything else will work out for the best.Give 🙏 thanks it wasn't on the road.Slowly things come together.Always pray ,give thanks, and enjoy what you have , little or a lot.God bless.

  11. Vocês são maravilhosos. Força, por vezes parace impossível, mas depois tudo dá certo. Boa sorte. Bjnhos

  12. Tara, can you have a mother, female relative, female friend, or even hired help to recover from postpartem? Also, I feel you need to do some deep cleansing, healing from the c section experience. Also, this time is not the time to go frivolous, do your water first. You lived in a van for heaven's sake, you do not need to make a bigger kitchen now.

  13. Oh no . I just wanted to cry with you. Because being a new mom (of not only the newborn but also a toddler) is so stressful as it is and to not have water, find out to get water it's 10k and then the gear shift. I would have cried to. It's times like this that I wish I had won the Powerball lottery here in USA so I could send you the 10k and whatever the car cost to fix just to help you out. But nope I didn't win. And I'm still poor. But I hope that you get better answers from the place that will give you permission to dig yourself. I'll try and send you a little something through Patreon or whatever I can send it through.

  14. (((Hugs))) it's all good.. your kitchen lounge is going to be gorgeous!! It looks beautiful ❤❤❤❤

  15. I feel so bad for you being upset. We HAVE to cry or scream or some such. 😭 (or swear). Hugs to you both although John is just running around being positive. 😝

  16. Is it possible to get the company or person who sold you the car to replace the gear shift with a new one? Otherwise that is a con job!!! They definitely knew it was broken!!!!

  17. Chin up you two lovely people. You have a beautiful place views are spectacular a two wonderful boys. Things sometimes happens like this its pain in the ……. but they always turn out right. Plus both tired with a little cherub and another to keep you occupied.😘😘

  18. Bless you Tara, I'm thankful the gear stick fiasco happened before you drove off to the shops. There probably will be challenges along the way but you will work your way through them, in doing so you both will have the beautiful home you deserve. Stay positive 💚

  19. Gray job staying positive! You are in a rough part of family rearing!! Keep the love and faith! Love watching y'all!!🙌💚

  20. You might check out what kind of beetles are on the trees ! We have had some nasty ones that eat the trees here in New England and they get huge and crawl up the houses because our houses are wood and theysquishand ge5i the house !I mean they wouldn’t allow you to bring in your own would to the camo grounds ,! Hopefully they’re harmless ones. You have 3nough problems . Lol , But so exciting

  21. This is my view on tears…it lets the poison of bitterness, frustration, anger, etc out of our hearts. Happy tears are the opposite of course, they fill our hearts with gratitude, happiness, joy & love. So, let it alll out! And take care of yourself momma…if you need that cup of tea to start your day off well, then make it happen. When you need to potty…take the littles with you or you can have future bladder issues. Remember If you don't take care of yourself FIRST then you are unable to take care of your family to the fullest. Prayers for you all. o/ 😙

  22. LOOK INTO BRINGING A DRILL TRUCK AND HAVE THEM DIG A WELL… MAY BE DOWN 200-400 Feet + Pump… It would be far less than digging up the entire road to the mains.
You got plenty of property.. So, It should not be a problem.
Before you go to camara… That would be far more complicated.
The difference could be several hundred + pipe up to $1,500 versus 10,000
Please look into it.. Some days it seem overwhelming…. Just take a deep breath and
don't stress…. ALSO, you GOT HUGE ROOF…. Water collection To 10,000 gallon Plastic containers. Use the roof to catch water. Use for non-potable water .Garden, flushing, showering
Run through carbon filters and UV Filters.. Strainers… So on… .
Small solar panel for pumps…. Up to roof drum and gravity fed down to house
    GOOD LUCK…

  23. It was hard to see you break out in tears when all the frustrations got the better of you. I suffered the same emotional seesaw after giving birth to my three beautiful children. You are strong and determined and will get past these bumps in the road. Take a deep breath and take strength from John's ability to see the positives. You are doing a fantastic job with the farm and bringing your adventures to us house and earth-bound beings.

  24. Oh sweet girl, you should have seen me, sitting here in our little living room waaaaay over here in WallaWalla, Washington, tears running down my cheeks for you… with you… I so understand those times when you've reached "that" point, where enough is enough, and as a mommy of 4 boys, and limited income, believe me we have had "those" times, (and still do, now thattgeckidsxare all grown up!)! But so often I would tell the boys, "We will pray about it, and we'll watch and see how God helps us figure it out, and 10 years from now we'll have a story to tell! " Sometimes we were amazed at how the troubles actually opened the way for something better. And I'm sure that at times preserved us from something worse. I'm just so thankful the gearshift broke in your own driveway and not out in traffic where the results could have been tragic! So thankful for the sunshine the next day and for spouses who can pick each other up when one feels a bit down! And life goes on, rain and sunshine, ups and downs, progress and hindrances, but in spite of it all we always have so much to be thankful for! Thanks for sharing, and for being real. Big hug from a long ways away!

  25. You are beautiful people be kind to yourself the hormones will take a while to resettle its hard with two smallies and loads of work to be done take loads of tea breaks 🥰💝💖💗💓💞

  26. Sending hugs, and positive vibes your way. I hope happy coincidences begin to line the clouds with better circumstances. Better days ahead.❤️💕

  27. Make sure when you are cutting through rooms that you are Not cutting structural supports..

  28. Aaaww sending you lots of good vibes and luck👍.Looking forward to seeing your renovations on the farm.Crusoe sweeping when things felt bleak, bless him.Take care 🤗.

  29. Good to see your back on the farm. Use your bamboo and make troughs to grow cabbage, lettuce, tomatos strawberries etc plants that you can use during the summer and Crusoe can help grow with easy reach for him to plant too.
