Pekin Ducks: Happy Ducks in the Urban Backyard Garden

The ducks are really enjoying backyard farm life. Here is a day in the life of four Pekin ducks rescued from abandonment at a local park. They have the entire yard for foraging and keep good company with the farmyard crew on our half-acre urban backyard mini farm.

Their cheerful chatter, constant companionship, and clumsy cuteness are well worth the mess they make. Who knew having ducks could be such sweet fun and so entertaining. Ducks grow so quickly, I can see why they would be a good choice as a staple for homesteaders raising them for meat, but our ducks are simply good company and make for fun pets.

Watch for Luca, our Sicilian mini donkey who must be a part of all farmyard happenings to video bomb, along with Flo, our Pygmy goat, as well as two of our three dogs, Sultan and Angus, who are curious but very careful with the ducks.
