Front Yard Garden

Dividing perennial plants, Geums and hardy Geraniums, Autumn garden vlog

I do LOVE Autumn time in the garden, in this week’s garden vlog, I am attempting to split and divide perennial plants. I split a Geum and some Hardy Geraniums to create more plants for free for my front border.

  1. Hi, an Alcea is a hollyhock. The plants that you divided are Achilleas. Just found your channel, so cheerful.

  2. Catherine, hi! That mug is cute. I feel right at home with you, sitting here with my hot chocolate. (It is 33f in Minnesota tonight.)

I need to do some garden cleanup, your enthusiasm is so encouraging! 👍👍

  3. Loooove your videos! I was just thinking of suggesting you to get a Lumie (sunrise alarm, bodyclock), i have an old one but it's a blessing. I find it really hard to get up when it's still dark but my friend Lumie helps. 🙂
We are hoping to move in December to our forever home with a big(ger) garden and I cannot wait. So I will be able to do stuff in the garden too. 🥰
    Sending you love Catherine.

  4. You have great neighbour's.
It would be cool to see their gardens some time.
I'm seting up my gardens for the first time. I live in a retirement village and I'm adding to existing flower gardens but starting from scratch to get a veggie garden going.
I so enjoy watching your vids.

  5. Hi Catherine, You wouldn´t by any chance know how to paint a fridge or can refer to somewhere with veeery simple steps, lol? 😅😊

  6. The yellow flower is a kniphofia aka red hot poker. Your garden is looking beautiful and the mug is so cute.

  7. deffo feeling SAD too, its not just dark but the shift in weather. not a fan of our Irish autumnal weather. those lights any good? they expensive…although probably cheaper in long run, I've to check back in with my GP if i find this winter as bad as last

  8. I’m from the Mediterranean coast of Spain, and we are still struggling with hot weather. Also just a couple of rainy days since May. 😓😓 Really hard…

  9. I'm from the sunny central Florida USA. We are sunny All yr long, but I love to watch your weather change it gets me in the fall mood 😄

  10. I'm in zone 5 Pennsylvania. I have a few Rozanne geraniums in my garden and they're still blooming a little bit. Been thinking of dividing them in the spring to have them in other areas of the garden where nothing has been in bloom for some time. I divide all of my plants the same way as your neighbor has showed you. Yesterday was beautiful here, and I spent all day outside cleaning up and putting away the outdoor furniture. Today is grey and rainy, so I am inside enjoying a nice fire.

  11. Hi Catherine, I think the plant your neighbor gave you, that your Dad had in his garden, might be a Yellow Torch Lily, also known as Red Hot Poker.

  12. So enjoy watching, it is amazing how the weather can effect are mood. I think im a zone 7 or 8 depends on what your planting, i so love flowers but i also love planting veggies as well. Im from the south east coast.

  13. I’m waiting to autumn…today there where people at the sea here in Italy🙂…beatiful mug Catherine..ciaoo🌸🌸

  14. Catherine, your garden is beautiful. I hope the best for your geraniums. I divided mine and 2 of the 3 died. I m taking a hint from you and I planted tons of bulbs. Hopefully it will be more beautiful next year! Can you please tell me where I could order some of those tea cups? Thanks. I'm in zone 5b US. Hagd.

  15. When you received plants from someone NEVER SAY THANK YOU, , my grandma always said that. im 70 & I still remember that.

  16. So good to see your garden filling out. I am in zone 5, it has been a beautiful.Autumn. The trees are gorgeous this year. The leaves are falling fast now, and I have tulips daffodils and alliums still to plant! We all sit in the sunny windows this time of year to soak up the sun.

  17. Hi Cathrine have you used a bulb auger drill bit to help plant your bulbs , I just watched one being used 🤗

  18. I was sweeping up my gardening mess yesterday on the deck and thinking of you with your garden broom. Mine is just as haggard so it made me laugh! Also I live in the Pacific Northwest in the United States and our climate is very similar to Ireland… So it’s fun to watch which flowers lasted for you and seeing which flowers lasted for me. I tend to do OK on the cloudy days but that is because I live in a cabin with more windows than walls. It lets all of the light in even if there’s only a little light that day. The lamp is a great idea and something else that I read that they do in Sweden is to light lots of candles and put on lots of ambient light in the home when it’s dark out. 💗💗💗 here’s hoping you have a better winter this year! Sending you hugs and love.

  19. I think your long-blooming geranium is an endressi (French crane's bill). It blooms well for me in my Canadian garden.

  20. Loved the fox tea mug! And your pleasure for the garden is simply really sweet. You have done so well. Melbourne Australia here and going into Spring time!! The summers here the past few years have become very very wet and humid. In February there is a blast of extreme heat usually destroys most average gardens, I keep going but its extreme and heart breaking. I now seek the indestructible when planting.

  21. The lights for SAD really do work. My helps so much, especially if I use it in the morning. I'm in Michigan, US and we have a lovely autumn, but winter is 4+ months of cold and snow.

  22. My Mother always said (when planting flowers) 1st year Sleep, 2nd year Creep and then the 3rd year LEAP

  23. My biggest advice is to be bold with dividing ! In general, plants are quite hardy and there have been many a time I thought I for sure killed something and it barely skipped a beat. I tend to do a lot of dividing in the spring where I am in the upper Midwest of the US (Michigan, zone 5b), we have quite snowy winters and our frosts have already taken out a lot of plants for the year, so I’m loving seeing all the green in your videos.

  24. We're at the beginning of the middle month of Spring – nonetheless, today we have forecasts of snow above 1100! My highest spot not far is a little less than that, but it seems to happen once at the beginning of every Spring downunder! We're supposed to be cool temperate here in the mtns.

  25. Heat zone 5 cold zone 10. Australia. Not sure if that is understandable to anyone. Just know its so darn hot here atm. My poor tomatoes need daily watering and protecting from the midday sun.
