(Video 54) Growing Beautiful Sunflowers In Containers | Seed To Harvest | Small-Space Food Garden.

It may sound impossible to grow plants such as corn or sunflower in containers! After all, these types of plants develop deep roots into the ground and support themselves on their own. They are usually taller than 5 feet and may seem to need a lot of space. If you have seen my corn (video 42) you may notice how I use the container to accomplish growing corn in a limited space. In this video, I show you how you can grow up to 5 healthy sunflowers in a container and harvest fresh, tasty, and nutritious sunflower seeds! Of course, the sunflowers themselves are so beautiful and make your vegetable garden brighter. Harvest the seeds as you need, while protecting them from birds and squirrels, which i show you in this video as well. All the trims after the harvest can be composted and used back in the garden in several ways.
I planted my sunflowers late season, here in Southern California, which is warm and sunny. I probably start earlier next year and do a second crop again. Sunflowers are tolerant, but to make a good crop, water well and keep your container away from totally drying. I planted Mammoth seed, which gives me the best chance of getting more seeds from each plant. You can buy these seeds at the Walmart, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Amazon, family nurseries, and other online venders. Thanks for visiting my garden today!
