In this video I walk around my chaos permaculture garden and explain some of the things that have come up. Some have asked how permaculture is different than chaos gardening. Chaos gardening for me is different than permaculture because with permaculture you are attempting to mimic nature. With chaos gardening it’s a little bit more unorganized. you’re not simply mimicking nature.

You’re chaotically introducing plant species and seeds and allowing natural selection to build your garden for you. The only interference I give my chaos garden is when a section begins to “monoculture” or where there is too much of one plant species. Sometimes I will disrupt that monoculture and add a mixture of seeds so that nature can take over again.

I love the ideas of the botanist Masanobu Fukuoka. The idea that to avoid or reverse desertification we need to allow plants to contribute to the soil biology. Monoculture gardens strip the soil of nutrients. This is why they say plant rotations are necessary. If you diversify what you plant there is no need for plant rotations. The plants can grow in symbiosis.

Starting off is simple. Try mixing all of the seeds you plan on growing, all together, and scattering the seed mixture throughout your intended gardening area. Allow natural selection to build your garden for you. I hope this tutorial gives you a garden you love as much as I love mine.

Thanks for the love and support 💚

  1. I enjoyed watching your video and I can’t wait to see what is coming up next. I also have a channel so if you check it out be sure to drop a comment and let me know if you enjoyed it…
    Subscribing Have a good day!!

  2. My kinda style!🤩 I enjoy organization. In the garden but I try and emulate the type of organization which manifests in nature.

Thanks for sharing your work, glad I found the channel I'll be looking forward to more. 🙂

  3. What did the ground look like when you scattered seed? Was it completely bare, loose soil, or was it already growing various species of plants/weeds? Love it dude, thanks for sharing.

  4. I love your videos. Do you recommend nitrogen figures like clover or wood chips for fruit trees? It's one better than the other for adding nutrients to the soil?

  5. I absolutely love this! I'm a newbie and my issue would be remembering what is what. Do you just learn what each plant looks like when it comes up?

  6. Question, what is your aphid populations like, I plant fennel, the ladybugs just love them, the best plant for them to reproduce themselves, but my brassicas get aphids about March 1, and it's so tough to do the water blast thing, I'm like you, chaos plants too, I have 2 raised beds for our Brassicas, lettuces, beets, carrots, that we plant Oct1, as I can cover them.
But in my chaos cover cropping I get explosions of aphids, til the temps hit the +100s, I plant 2 cycles, heat, coot tolerant cover crops, and it seem the prefatory bugs can't keep up.
    Any tips?

  7. Try this! There are so many benefits to intermixing.
Also your garden looks so similar to mine (but from a subtropical climate instead of the pnw)
I feel so seen! Thank you!

  8. I think you were intercropping in a unique way. I realized that when we do that we have less pest. And your plants looks healthy too.

  9. I also live in the Sonoran Desert in zone 9b where roof rats are problem. My neighborhood is about 40 years old with a lot of mature citrus fruit trees and I fear roof rats will always be near. I've been told the best I can hope for is to make my yard the least attractive in the area for them to nest in by keeping vegetation trimmed up away from the ground and denying them any coverage. Your jungle looks like the perfect habitat for them. How do you fight to keep them out of your yard?
