  1. I'm in zone 8a and planting my lemon grass plants in the ground was on my list of things to do. But now that you say it is only hardy in Zone 9 winter temps and warmer, maybe I shouldn't bother. : ( We've already had a freeze and they tolerated it while sitting in a shared 3 gal. pot in a protected sunny spot just fine. I grew them from grocery store stalks I got at an Asian market; sprouted the stalks in water and transplanted into a pot that is now outside. I really hoped it would perform like my green onions or other herbs and be a year-round herb I could use. But maybe not if what you say is the case more often than not.

Pampas grass is another great mulch.

  2. Thanks! I like to harvest the grass by pulling it out, then cutting about an inch above the root. Use the grass for tea or cooking (you can also freeze it for later) and replant just the root. Works great!

  3. I cut my winter killed leaves in the spring, and use them on the floor of the hen sleeping quarters for mosquito's. I hang in the rafters also, scrunch it , it still smells good. I'm in 8b. It doesn't die here.

  4. After watching this I really want to try growing lemongrass! Thank you for the information! An Asian friend has often told me about it, it time for me to try this myself! Love seeing Alice on your videos! God bless!
