Growing the Rarest Edible Mushrooms

William Padilla-Brown is a citizen scientist who, at a relatively young age, taught himself the ways of mushroom cultivation in order to change the world. William made waves as the first American to grow cordyceps, a rare orange mushroom that grows from the larvae of insects. William heads a citizen-run research center dedicated to environmental regeneration efforts with the belief that connecting more to the environment will aid humans in its preservation. He advocates growing your own mushrooms as a means for both food and education.

  1. So can anyone grow these in doors in your bed room closet? I got a long double closet. I also live in Florida hot humid moist 10 months out of the year. But I'm in apartment. So could I grow these in my closet? And where would I get the initial spores or what have you to get them growing?

  5. I'm a huge fan of mycology, and I love the look of these rare mushrooms, they're fascinating.

That said, In my opinion, wild mushrooms universally taste terrible. I've had so many people try to feed me wild, supposedly rare mushrooms, and they all taste bland and off-putting.

  6. I think ppl get angry because they were doing it for years wuthout much fuss then some kid becomes a niche rockstar doing what you been on your own doing but this kid is legit he shares an encourages instead of keeping ot some secret club forbidden text

  7. but like, what science has he done?, genuinely asking not being a d, cos it seems like he specialises in cultivation? though he said not, would have like to see the questions he has answered.

  8. Haha! Now, instead of the cordyceps mycelium controlling it's insect host to spread it's spores; it has now trained humans how to propagate their species! 😄

  9. I like how Mr. Brown represents good ol' PA, as a native seeing that we have many different types here, I may quite the 10 hour day slavery to some donkey millionaire, and live off mushrooms.

  10. I just want to know where he got the bag to build up this farm he has? The infrastructure they showed is extensive and expensive.

  11. 100 million people in U.S cannot find three meal a day, while the U.S regime spends on 722 billions on military for year 2022 for killing machine.

  12. Cordyceps Militaris? Athletes use it to boost physical performance and recovery
Lions mane is also the goat, boosts ur memory and recovers it after drug abuse

  13. This is EXACTLY the type of place I want to work. If anyone knows if there’s something like this in the Atlanta area please let me know

  14. I learned from Cambodian and other South East Asian channels a few years back. They are incredible and the difference in them are so interesting

  15. This is how you start a zombie apocalypse. JK great video, I love mushrooms, spend weeks each year to collect them, I like seeing this kind of hype and passion for mushrooms.

  16. Those dumplings look amazing I can only imagine how much amazing food you could make with those mushrooms

  17. Within a community its not the "lack of attention" its the lack of "education" if more schools taught younger people about all of this magic fungi then we could turn world hunger around, I mean educate people about these things find little facts to bring them in board and we can make the hunger crisis go away for good

  18. I want to be friends with this man. I'm a biology major but mycology isn't really an option as an undergraduate. But I think what he's doing is awesome

  19. I grew up eating cordyceps (as a tonic) and this is the first time I've seen a western person describe something (that I've always only associated with pain and disgust) so favourably.

  20. the fact that those mushrooms specifically grow out of moths blew my mind, and that you can cultivate them on something so cheap since a lot mushrooms seem to need hard wood substrate

  21. He is gonna be found in his yard with a mushroom growing from his brain lol be careful man.
