According to the article on Time Out, they polled 20,000 “city dwellers” and local experts to determine the 51 coolest neighborhoods across the planet. Guess which one got the top spot? Spoiler alert!! It’s Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, Jalisco.

It was just this year that I lived in Colonia Americana for 5 months, so I thought it would be fun to travel from my current home in Ajijic back to Guadalajara and showcase what makes this ‘hood so awesome. Hint, hint: Instagram-worthy restaurants with delicious food, historic architecture, art, events, nature, cultural aspects, overall energy, and more!

Also in this Guadalajara Mexico vlog I interviewed locals to see what they think about Colonia Americana getting this designation. Do they love it? Hate it? Let’s find out!

  2. Thankyou for sharing. Absolutely beautiful. My ancestors and I have a cousin there in San Jalisco. I would love to visit. I grew up in El Paso tx next to Juarez.

  3. Maddie thanks for your videos!!! I'm so sorry about your anxiety 😔 please have lots of fun now that your young and have energy.

  4. Maddie, what is the rate of recovery for stolen phones in Guadalajara (since you got your phone got stolen in Americana, in broad daylight?). Maybe the question is an odd one, but, I am wondering if you guys have ever run into people who have had their cellies stolen and then got their phones back again.

  5. It used to be a great place, that part of the city. My first concerts, my first dates, even my first fights happened in that area. But the local authorities (each more corrupt than the previous one) began to think more and more about making it attractive to wealthy tourists and to launder money than making it better for us regular Mexicans. All those fancy new buildings you see there are built illegally because all those houses are supposed to be protected by law to prevent their destruction, and guess where the money to build them comes from… To be able to afford rent in that area you would need an income 3x higher than the average in this part of the country, at least 3x higher. Not to mention the rise of crime that even yourself have been a victim of, which in many cases is forcing locals to move away and make way for new tenants, more often than not foreigners and/or very wealthy.
It's a matter of corrupt authorities, really, not of foreigners or people in general.

  6. It's where I live, and yhea it's a cool an relaxed neighborhood, but for people who live in here everything becomes very normal, but we appreciate the recognition and people to visit it it's what brings live to the neighbor

  7. Whats happening with UBER in Mexico this year, over recent years they have been great but this year and in various cities we had problems with them either taking ages to find a driver or cancelling. Moved across to DIDI which seemed much more reliable!

  8. Hay muchas colonias muy bonitas en Guadalajara, me gusta vivir aquí con su clima templado y poco extremoso
A pesar de que de repente hay violencia del narco, eso no me gusta., Y la zona metropolitana no deja de crecer y crecer 😥

  9. All the neighborhoods in México are Americanas(Colonia Americana), they happen to be in a continent called America or North America!

  10. ALTHOUGH I THINK SHAMBALA IN D CENTER OF D EARTH IS D COOLEST PLACE IN D WORLD, SEE ADMIRAL BIRDS MEMO, I LIKE YOUR VIDEOS.

  11. i live in GUADALAJARA and yes it’s beautiful but also very dangerous, we are number 2 in the whole country in car theft and assault with a deadly weapon, insecure city 2nd place and Mexico City is first, thefts of all kind happen every day in daylight also, cities has a lot of security problems because of the CJNG drug cartel which is all over the city

  12. Thanks Maddie for sharing the awesome news! The neighborhood of Pilsen which is in Chicago near my home was named Forbes coolest neighborhood in the world in 2018. Pilsen is a Mexican neighborhood being gentrified and has plenty of festivals, Murals , Bars and restaurants to enjoy. Viva Mexico 🇲🇽!

  13. Great job on this video, you gave a good perspective of this area 👍👍👍 Loving this makeup look Maddie.

  14. Nice video. There are a lot of neighborhoods throughout the world with safety issues and in general Mexico is no exception. Having said that we feel very safe in Mexico. -Marc
