Mrs. Debbie was awesome! She’s the real deal. Her enthusiasm for growing edibles around the house for the great groceries, yes, but also to inspire her GRANDKIDS…I’m just glad to get to meet her!
~
Hop on as we take a tour of the garden areas and future edible landscape.
~
You’ll learn as we go and hopefully be inspired to grow some of your own food in your available space!
~
Y’all be blessed!
~
Keep sowing and growing.

how fun!
Aw, miss Debbie is so cute and sweet. Love all of her yard space! π³πΎπ
Trees and shrubs need minerals. Iron, sulphur and magnesium are just a few. Do research and remember fall is a good time for application.
How wonderful! Youβre inspiring all of us. Hope Miss Debby posts pictures as she goes… itβs a huge project! Blessings
Pine straw is only acidic before going brown. Same w coffee grounds once brewed they are no longer acidic. So…I utilize all our left over coffee (which has the acid in it) at 50% strength through the winter to water my blueberries and get amazing results.
You scared me for a second Benj! When talking about correcting the ph in the soil around the blueberries you said maybe use "pine saw dust". I heard PINE SOL! lol It's rough getting old!
my town fills the streetside planters with rainbow chard, basil and kale and they are lovely to look at.
Benj. Using pine straw around blueberries is GREAT advice! If saw dust is used….it should be FRESH saw dust (not composted). Even saw dust eventually gets broken down and must be refreshed with more fresh (raw) saw dust. Most things don't like fresh saw dust, but blueberries prefer it. Putting some good rich soil at the root base of the blueberries when planting/transplanting them is actually a good idea, BUT adding the pine needles or fresh saw dust will help the Ph factor and they'll be happy, happy, happy! I used to put on a full 12 inches of saw dust over my plant's roots about every 3-4 years.
That's going to be beautiful. God bless you Debbie.
Pouring water on concrete then walking where it is wet will let the dirt fall off your shoes.
Ooh looks like alot of fun and hard work for you!!β‘β‘
Do you know you can eat the leaves off the sweet potato plants?
She's got a great plan for her gardens. Good job. Have a blessed day.
Miss Debbie and I are wearing the same shirt today!
thats going to be a nice job on this garden
You can plant a special garden just for hummingbirds. I buy a large 24oz bag of Pennington brand seeds from Lowes, that's specific to wildflower for humming birds and butterflies, they are great flowers over a large area or 4feet strip along with a side walk 1000 sq ft.
Benj: been meaning to ask what area of tennessee you located in?
That is so cool for Mrs. Debbie by watching your video's to contact you. Alot of good ideas coming from the both of you. She has a beautiful big yard.
Great.
Miss Debbie – your home and yard are already so beautiful! I love your plans for adding more edibles – such a great use of your space! I absolutely enjoy my little kitchen garden just outside my back door – it is pretty and so fragrant! It's so much fun to just go out and harvest a bit of this and a bit of that for a recipe! Can't wait to see what Benj #gardenguy comes up with as far as design!
Garden work sometimes is always about chasing the shade! π₯΅βοΈβοΈπ¬π§π§
Plant Queen Anne's Lace, daisies, yarrow, dill, dianthus — any flat open flower that will attract predatory Tachanid flies, which will dispatch of the Japanese beetles. We planted Queen Anne's Lace for the first time this spring and noticed these small flies all over them! I wondered why house flies would be interested in those flowers– ew! I thought I'd never plant them again. Then I heard another garden YouTuber mention the predatory Tachanid fly as a solution to the Japanese beetles. That's when the light went on! I looked up the fly, it looks like a house fly, but it's not. And we planted every flower that that fly likes in our garden! Now I'm going to plant Queen Anne's Lace every year! We haven't had nearly the amount of Japanese beetles we normally do, it's amazing!

What a wonderful space Debbie has and she has some fantastic plans! Thanks for sharing and best of luck! ( someone in the thread mentioned Queen Anneβs lace for the flowers that attracted the beneficial wasp…. I had great luck with all kinds of yarrow ( also a flat headed flower) which comes in many colors! Especially the Coloradoβs! Just beautiful! ) Hope we get to see an update at a later time! πβ€οΈπ₯°
