  1. Mixing on a plastic sheet that's a new on, 4 to 1 mix that's another plus its usually a dry sand and cement mix.

  2. I got all my patio tips from Fred West. He uses dead bodies for the sub base. Gets a bit whiffy in the summer but you can bet its dead level.

  3. Hello sir,
We export Black limestone export business both wholesale and retail
In India. More details and pictures or videos I will send you details.
Cheep and best price. Black slabs lime Ston. Any requirements inform me sir thank you .🤝

  4. 😂😂ever tried mixing compo up on a plastic sheet! It’s a nightmare! Spade keeps ripping up and plastic all in ya compo! Mix it up in wheel barrow for small areas of laying patio or hire a electric mixer for large areas! Please take my advice 👍

  5. Bollocks stupid guidelines 1 geo fix for pointing 2 washing slabs down ??? You end up catching the joints n making a mess of them 3 use a cement mixer 4 set up screed bars much easier and quicker 5 homebase is shite

  6. Wow such a nice informative video and yet so called professionals get it wrong . The next i get my patio redone i will follow this simple but effective guide .

Thank you for posting this video .

  7. Wouldn’t be easier to mix the sand and cement in a bucket instead of the floor?

  8. Someone needs a cemnt mixer and some sbr , no barrow is all , i dont know why u bought a shovel , straight with the trowel from your little pile of "cement" will be faster

  9. How thick are the slabs, mortar and sub-base individually? A total of 150mm doesn't mean anything..

  10. Much easier and practical way to mix the cement is on then kitchen floor and let your mum clean it up after

  11. Experts don’t lay on a wet mix! He’s using pegs, not pins? Can’t get a tight string on pegs. Gordon bennet! He as Bad as they come!

  12. I really hope they have no winter at all where they live. They dug a 6 inch hole and filled it with a tiny amount of gravel. What do you think happens when the tiniest amount of water goes into that area or below it? The water will freeze, expand and rip that patio.

Please look up how deep you should dig in your area so water can drip through the gravel to a depth where it is above freezibg temperature even in the harshest winter.

I guess they magically measured 2-3 degree decline, so the water doesnt stay on the patio or even worse gathers at the house wall.

They also have nothing prohibiting the whole patio to move away from the house by a few fractions of an inch. In the next decade you will see a giant crack between house and patio.

A patio is way more complicated than you think. You can prepare a lot of stuff, but i would always call a professionel to finish the job.

  13. Years ago when i was young my dad employed some 'rogue traders' to do our patio (we didn't know they were rogue traders at the time). They bought the cheapest slabs they could find and didn't do ANY of this. Just slapped it on the soil and we were none the wiser until it became apparent thats what they'd done and they weren't legit for the job. Total criminals. As an adult now I don't trust these traders and am looking to do the job myself with some youtube guidance.

  14. Great instructional video. Better to mix on a plywood board. I have been using mine for 14 years!

  15. Youse a mixer never knock up by hand, you won’t get it mixed properly, failing that a paddle mixer at the very least you can get them for 30quid eBay etc

  16. I followed this guide and my slabs lifted. I've since found you should use a primer to make them adhrere to the mortar. You might want to add that bit!

  17. A good video instruction on one method to install large slab / paving stones. Regardless of your method, an invaluable low cost tool to consider for the project is called SLABSETTERS. Here is a link that describes the SlabSetters tool…. https://youtu.be/tra84XS5L6U

  18. Too much mix, and it's too wet.
Don't hammer the sides, hammer near the centre, but towards the side you want down.
Use a dryer mix for pointing in. Use a stiff bristle brush to spread the muck around, then do point detail…
Back to the first point. Why is that mix so wet?! It's got to support a bloody great concrete slab, not collapse under the weight and get pushed out the sides like toothpaste.

  19. I've never laid a slab in my life (which is why I'm here) but wouldn't it be better to mix the cement on a sheet of wood or something like that?
