MIgardener: The ONLY Crop I Know You Can Sow and Grow 4 Times in a Year!

An update and harvest of our 45 day beet project. This was a test to see how many harvests we could get out of our beets. We sowed seeds in April, June, August, and September!

  1. I have started a couple of groups of beets and so far none have really done that well so need to figure out what I am doing wrong. Get good leaves but the root doesnt seem to form at all

  2. I, too have had a bad experience with Beets. I need to get some MI seeds. I think some of the seeds sold today are not very viable. I've had beets in the ground since end of June, and they're not producing root/bulb.

  3. I 🍁 have 🍂 never 🥮 been able to grow beets ! And I love them !!! I will do it this next year for sure ! I will go check to see if you have seeds left ! 🧡

  4. I grew beets this summer that had lots of roots with small red pearl-like growths on them, with lumpy not smooth sides on the beet itself.

I tried to find images similar to these grotesque looking, hideous beets. I couldn't find images like them. Do you know what could have gone wrong?

  5. I just started gardening in Spring of this year. I tried growing beets but failed miserably. I'm going to try again and hopefully they will turn out as nice as yours. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge with us.

  6. I tried growing beets for a fall harvest and they didn’t grow more than two inches 😞 I used bagged topsoil and planted them in a raised bed. No idea what I did wrong. Had the same issue with some chard.

  7. Random question. I saw you used to do hydroponic in your basement. I was thinking of growing some leaf veggies indoors this winter for fresh salads. However, my family and I are worried about taste. We have had tomatoes and lettuces that tasted like chemicals and were really gross. This is whats stopping me. So truthfully, is it worth it in your opinion? Or should i just deal with the fruit nats?

  8. I dislike beets. They taste like a skunk smells to me. Cilantro is another crop that I dislike. Would love to have a crop that I could plant multiple times a year. 🙁

  9. I love beet juice from my backyard garden, but I hate having to shave their skins off to get to all that wonderful juice

  10. I've had really poor success with beets, maybe you can help? I usually direct sow, but have spotty germination (yes, using MiG seeds) and then I get terrific greens but the beet is a tiny spindly thing.

  11. Question, i have had some of my watermelons look and feel ripe. The tendral was brown and dead, so we harvested them. When we cut them open, they were white. What happened? These were huge, about 15-18 lbs. I am confused. Any suggestions?

  12. I used to think I hated beets, then videos like this made me feel empowered to grow them myself. So of course they're delicious now.

  13. My beets were heavily affected by leaf miners, what is the best way to keep them out of my beet leaves? Zone 4b Central Colorado

  14. My beets grow so much slower than that. What’s a trick to get them to grow like that? My beet greens looks great too, they really love this cool fall weather!

  15. I’ve had the worst luck with beets. Leaf miners are a real problem. Maybe I’ll try it now. Thanks.

  16. my beets are just now starting to swell up their roots, very much excited for them. in the mean time i have occasionally plucked off some leaves for steaming them to serve with my lunch.

  17. And for the people that live in the southern states of the USA, Egyptian walking onions are a perennial onion that keeps replanting itself several times a year

  18. I'm in central France, about zone 7 or 8 I think. I have to grow in the polytunnel because of the Houdini Hens and Daredevil Ducks. In summer it can get to 40°C or higher in there.
Would I be able to grow the same variety or different ones depending on the season?

  19. I grow cilantro 12 times a year. I want it fresh all the time. I grow them in the shade in summer, and fill sun, protected on the porch in the winter. I start them indoors and transplant when they are big enough.

  20. I luv them for the soil improvement, and the greens are exceptional, they sell really well, but personally I think the fruit just taste like dirt. Will germ and grow under horrible conditions. I'll always scatter a few – ps; most of mine bolt far too early. Central Indiana.
