Growing Beans In Buckets | Plus Okra | Container Gardening

Growing Jade green beans, Rocdor yellow wax beans, and Jambalaya okra in buckets using our secret container gardening soil mix for planting and growing green beans, yellow wax beans, and Jambalaya okra in raised beds, buckets and containers. The problems is, we have no secrets when it comes to gardening. Your success is our success. Today we’ll cover our container garden growing medium and the soil additives we also use in our raised bed garden. Garden boxes and containers give gardeners more control over the soil and we take advantage of that. We also use pelleted seeds to ensure good seed to soil contact which improves our germination rate. We’ll show you how to space your Jade green beans, yellow Rocdor beans, and Jambalaya okra to the correct planting depth. We also want to discuss the positive effects of phosphorus, calcium and magnesium on root crops as well as the down side of nitrogen in the soil.

Items used in this soil mix include: Potting soil, bone meal, Epsom salt, and composted chicken or cow manure. See also: Super Soil

  1. So the okra can grow a lot in one pot ,I started 2 crimson spineless cause was afraid they wouldn't have enough room ,I think I did it wrong now

  2. I live in an apartment I have a very small patio I don't get a lot of sun we get maybe about an hour of the afternoon sun do I have any hope of growing any type of tomatoes

  3. This is my first year bucket gardening. I already have 10 done but never thought to do the holes on the side of the bucket instead of the bottom. My first ones have all holes on the bottom which now I realize as fast as I put water in it's coming right back out. So no correcting that issue right now. Just gonna have to roll with it. But I've got 10 more buckets that i'm going to be setting up within the next couple of days and I think I'm definitely going to put the couple of holes on the side instead. Thanks for sharing. I really appreciate it. Sending you my blessings. <3

  4. Thank you for sharing, can't wait to see the little sprouts. This year we are growing dragon tongue bush and rattlesnake pole beans. Maybe you could try a bucket of kohlrabi 😉😀 stay safe ❤💜💙

  5. My husband and I love eating green and wax beans. I know I’m a lone, lonely voice, but I really prefer frozen beans to canned beans. I’ve never tried growing okra. My husband’s grandmother was from Arkansas and always called it oak-ree.

  6. I have wondered how to grow okra. Thanks for letting me know don't plant all the seeds in the 3 packets I bought. 3 different varieties

  7. You all read my mind, because I was wondering if you could grow okra in a bucket ! I’m going to give this a try! 👍🏻 I look forward to your video each day, they are so inspiring!

  8. We just bought all of the things we needed to start planting we won’t put anything outside permanently yet because the forecast says temperatures in the 30’s 😫 but soon. P.S. my husband built our first elevated garden bed for me, I have a very sore back and arthritis in my knees so kneeling and bending is not an option he made it out of old pallets and it turned out great, I wish I could send you a picture. Thanks for all you do to help us, Cindy

  9. Oh wow, I would never think you could grow that many okras in a 5-gallon bucket. Have you guys always done that many on one bucket? I thought I was pushing it with three in a container. lol

  10. Jade beans are my favorite! I found them by mistake, someone suggested them when I asked about pole beans. I bought them on faith and whoops! But I'll never be without them again.

  11. I tried innoculating my bean seeds before planting this year. I'll be curious how the plants produce. I simply added some to each hole per the instructions.

  12. 👋, I have a large distaste for the little turds!
One season my X planted 24 bushes of the yellow@@*<¢©©<<
    I'm loving the buckets tutorial!
I'm going grow bags this year.
In my day I had endless buckets but now it's 2 lol
    Love yah
JO JO IN VT 💕 😄

  13. I love Okra & tomatoes & onions stewed together it’s delicious 😋if you make seafood Gumbo it’s not Gumbo if it’s doesn’t have Okra

  14. I would like to see Squash yellow and Zuccihini planted in a five galloon bucket.

Also how much wood chips did you put in the bottom of bucket 2" or half full like beans.

One more think. I was told if you put okra in freezer" then when ready to plant take out and count out the number of seed you want to use. Pour boiling water over the seed and let sit for 2 hours. Then plant.

I was told this will help them come up better. Have you heard this before? Or is it just wasting time?

Thanks so much! Great video as usual!

  15. Thought I heard a peacock at the beginning. Haven’t tried beans in a bucket but now I want to, if I can find any seeds anywhere. Already planted all I had. Excited about this bucket series. Drilled the holes in some buckets and I’m trying tomatoes in them. No wood chips. Would coconut coir be a good subs?

  16. Nice bucket garden. I’m looking forward to seeing it all grow. Thank y’all for sharing. God bless y’all.

  17. Finally got the wood for my bucket garden. Will take pictures. More buckets arriving this week. Have you grown melons in buckets?

  18. I ordered a dwarf variety of okra seeds called Baby Bubba. Three foot plants that produce short fat pods. Okra plants remind me of hibiscus plants.

  19. Hi guys. My hubby went to lowe's to get my buckets & they were all sold out. I guess more & more people are liking this idea. Any suggestions?

  20. I planted okra in a container myself I love it it's very versitel I also tried making pickled okra I had a problem with the brim I could not get it the way I liked it

  21. Sure is a good video. That sure was some good information. You got a good variety of plants in the buckets. Have a great day.

  22. Got any secret tips for keeping slugs away? My first round of beans I planted in the ground and low beds have gotten eaten away to nothing. I've put crushed eggshells all around as much as I can, and cut the bottoms out of clear plastic cups and stuck them over my new seedlings in an attempt to protect them. I'm trying to avoid using any poisons.

  23. Hello Mark and Tina hope y'all are doing well. Going back and watching videos that I missed so y'all will probably see many compliments on several videos hope it's not too overwhelming. Great buckets planting, hopefully trying a few of them this year if not definitely taking notes in my book for next year thank you for all the tips and tricks. Stay safe sending prayers 🙏 and God's blessings. Much love and big tx hugs from South Tx.

  24. I didn't know you could plant so many in 1 bucket. I'm trying to grow them for my first time, and only planted 3 in each 10 gallon pot lol. Epic waste of soil.
