  1. Thanks again for sharing Sean. A little off topic but would be interested in hearing what you feed your dogs – store food or some permaculture inspired, sustainably sourced food?? You do such a great job feeding your chickens from scraps and compost, so wondered if you have come up with something for your dogs?

  2. This is very timely for me. I purchased an Oukitel 2000 last month, and I'm planning on buying panels this week. I don't know where to buy used ones near me in Indiana though.

  3. I am no solar expert, but from what I've learned, even a few shadows on the corner of a panel could drastically reduce the power you are generating. You might want to test setting it up in different areas to see the best power generation.

  4. Great idea! I put solar panels on my south facing roof and used construction adhesive around the frame so I wouldn't have to put holes in my roof. I also converted a chest freezer into a frig using a temperature controlled outlet which is highly efficient.

  5. Yayyyyy, dogs! You might guess from my nick that I'm a fan of having a canine or two around the place. 🙃
As always, I appreciate your approach to making things work. Yankee ingenuity, hillbilly tech, whatever one chooses to call it… it's always important to make this sort of thing as do-able as possible for as many people as possible.

  6. Here there are campaigns against solar panels taking up green space.. So what would you plant under them and how would you integrate them into your green space?

  7. Sean I love these practical and frugal ideas. Totally our way of life. Use what you have.

  8. Hubs & I have been doing research on solar panels, etc. While not necessarily buying Renogy products, their website gave some helpful info about tilting solar panels (along with your thoughts about moving your panels @ different times) for the best sun results.

    From Renogy blog:
Here is the ideal panel tilt based on the season:

Spring: During the spring months, the best angle for your solar panels is a 45° tilt.
Summer: In the summer, the sun will be higher in the sky, so it's ideal for panels to have a low angle at 20°.
Winter: During the winter months in the northern hemisphere, the sun is lower in relation to the horizon. So in the winter, solar panels get their best performance at a steeper angle of 60°.

  9. Cheers to the rescue dogs! You may already have a video posted, but I’m curious about your solar set up. Nice score on the free panels

  10. Unfortunately, solar is not independent as it seems and has been portrayed to the public, nor is it friendly to the earth. It doesn’t work without storing the energy on lithium batteries that degrade over time setting us up to create an even more massive issue than planed obsolescence has. The lithium is brutally mined in 3rd world countries, often by children in very dangerous conditions and with many gruesome casualties. The green movement and prepper movement and many others are being steered and controlled by the very people who have raped and polluted the earth for many decades and continue to do so to make obscene profits and support their lavish, entitled life styles that make the rest of us slaves, dependent serfs. I don’t believe anything they say when their actions have and do speak volumes. We live in an age of constant disinformation and deceptions by the very few who own nearly everything and use that power to sway public opinion to fit with what works best for them no matter what it does to the rest of us or the earth. This does not reflect badly on kind and thoughtful people, such as yourselves, who are trying to do their best in the horrendous conditions that we have all been driven to by the government/corporate, lock step syndicate that has been created and rules over every aspect of life, globally, but I feel it is important that we all take a long hard look at it while trying to make the best possible choices we can given the circumstances. I always knew things were off and wrong, but the 2020 cookie cutter responses, in every country, that did not follow protocols and practices that were pushed as truth for decades really took the facade off and exposed the depth of the mess we are in. Just some of my more recent thoughts and results of trying to make sense of nonsensical situations, though ugly and hard to look at, I hope others are taking a step back and a serious look at these inconsistencies instead of accepting the very loud and powerful voices screeching nonsense at us every moment of the day.

  11. Another improvement would be to make the legs longer and drill multiple holes so that the angle of the solar panels stays perpendicular to the noon day sun as the seasons change. This makes a huge difference in solar panel output. Perhaps not in your case where you are over supplied with free panels, but where a person person is paying for panels and needs to maximize output, it would be.
I am going to try your idea using pressure treated 1 x 4 deck boards for the legs and have something at ground level to hold ballasts so that the wind won't destroy them here in Kansas.

  12. Oh come on Sean, they're so close to museum quality you should be doing your victory dance every time you walk by them. 🙂
Also, the longer term you think, the more you'll see the imperative of hardening the system against a solar storm because by the mid 40's chances are a blast will knock the grid down, perhaps everywhere and for good. 2008 was nothing compared to the Carrington Event of 1859, and it is without doubt worse is yet to come from the 150-200 year solar cycle, let alone that the 12,000 year cycle is due same time and during a grand solar minimum as a pole shift is underway. I know that's a lot in one paragraph, but facts are facts. We're going back to the stone age soon and mostly only the globalists are seriously preparing. Unfortunately, the mainstream cannot deal with this, and denial is the most powerful coping mechanism. I'm too old for this, but you ans Sasha are young enough …

  13. Yay! Hi George! Be careful you two or you will end up like us trying to do chicken math with our dogs! We started with two (I had a dog and my partner had a dog) and we now have 6 dogs, 3 cats, 3 tortoises, 6 turtles, a beardie, and ducks. We did have 200 egg laying chickens but my body couldn't handle the Daily chores anymore of moving chicken tractors so they were gifted to another retired friend with an amazing farm.

  14. Fantastic and informative as usual, from an experienced permaculture gardener what would be your advice if you are asked to choose between two plots of land, the first one has 1/3 pine forest 2/3 dry stony rocky soil with a bit of slope with some wild plants in it ,remote ,very few fruit trees ,2 ponds one of them large, 2 wells .the second 2/3 pine forest all cut down 1/3 arable land with 35 adult olive trees very few fruit tress,4 wells and 2 basic outbuildings for farming use, urban by the road, and I am interested in permaculture with no previous experience I am feeling a bit in a limbo could you please help me pick one your opinion will mean a lot to me many thanks .

  15. If only Nikola Tesla were alive i am sure he would continue capturing that free energy that no-one is allowed to know about. The enslavement is breaking down and I have faith in the power of the human mind (spirit) alternative power is on its way, pretty sure I will see it in my lifetime. 👍🙏
