Great info, right up my alley!
You can also go to a plastics/bucket manufacturing plant and get the buckets in many sizes and you can get them even cheaper. The bucket manufacturing plants have a lot of rejects at times and may even give them to you. it also helps if you know someone who works there as employees get them for free.
Great inof, and great advertising for gro bags, but not economical in Australia….. I have the baskets and hesian bags and they last 3 years and by that time the plant needs to go into ground.
FIrehouse Subs sells their 5 gallon pickle buckets for $2.00. The money goes to purchasing firefighting equipment.
White buckets don't last. I got some black ones that are 30 years old. Same with 55 gal drums. Like them grow towers. They are biodegradable.
this is a ad, not anything else!!
Baguslah terus menginspirasi,Semoga sukses, mampir juga kegubuk kami
Thank you for the info! I would really enjoy seeing your garden as you as narrating in the next one?
don't use fabric just use news paper many layers
my garden is 30 pots made from wrecked garbage dumpters donated buy a friend ,,cut into 3rds all raised and irrigated with drip irrigation 90gai dumpsters works great lick tubs will make 3 pots and are cheap,,i find them in the road ditches after a big wind lolthey work great and will last for years i could see a laundry basket for potatos line with news paper and plant ,,harvest time just dump it over and your done
I really don't understand this supposed tutorial which I have used various- the bucket, double buckets, laundry baskets, and the good bags, and Wal-Mart bags. But yet we're still not learning anything here!
consider the microplastics from UV degradation – and whether you want all that plastic in your yard/garden. shading the pots themselves by any means should help them stay intact longer.
Sorry but this is so boring
Too long lot of repeating boring
I found 7 gallon grow at http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/product/root-pouch-grey-fabric-pot-3-4-year was about $2.23 per bag and on the website it says they last for years
.56 cent a year on 7 gal bags
Good info but toooo wordy! Brevity, my friend.
Larry Hall channel is the very best gardening channel.
Nobody cares that 10 × 3 = 30 not 33 and 5 × 10 = 50 not 55….
How do you grow Rice?
I want to see that cheap laundry basket in action..i understand the 5 gallon buckets ..grow pots are self explanatory I've watched other videos using storage containers and a plethora of other containers but by the time I add the fabric that $1 container turned into a $2 container for that I can find a 5 gallon bucket or something I don't need the fabric to use it
In my country, Jamaica, it's important and economical to utilize 'cheap' agricultural practices. Shopping options are limited and what is available is very EXPENSIVE.
Keep up the good work.
Awesome video, thanks! What were you using to line the laundry baskets, plastic garbage bags?
Why would you drill all those huge holes instead of just a bunch of small holes in the bottom of a bucket?
Are you using plastic garbage bags
Sadly, Larry and his company are gone… But this video helped me see the light based strictly on potential workload alone for our goals. Thanks!
Yep. I’ve already used laundry baskets with cheap grow bags or lining the laundry baskets with landscape fabric. Then I place my containers in a kiddy pool with water to wick up into the grow bags
Air-Pots last a pretty long time.
I use laundry baskets. 3rd year now and still not disintegrated.
5 gal buckets same thing.
Also, you don't need all those holes in the bottom. Just a few 1/2" ones.
About food grade:
Any new plastic container that has a '2' inside the recycle triangle IS food grade.
Old ones you don't know what was in it unless you bought it new.
Tomatoes need no less than 5 gal. Bigger is better for those.
Advantage of grow bags though:
MOVEABLE. STORABLE with minimum space (empty of course).
Easy to sub irrigate (just place in a 2" or larder drip tray bigger than your bag but you need a overflow hole about 2" up from the bottom on the side).
Disadvantage of grow bag:
Tall plants like corn can tip over in the wind.
You have to be aware of mosquito larvae when using that drain tray.
Bags can become clogged every season.
Uses a lot more water.
Easier to disturb plan roots.
Laundry baskets:
Lasts a year or two depending on the manufacturer (Rubbermaid is about the best one out there).
Can be sub irrigated but drip tray hard to find.
Can be lined with most 'breathable' material (window screen, landscape fabric, old sheets, etc).
Disadvantage:
Tall plants can tip over.
Uses about the same water as grow bag.
Flimsy, sometimes hard to move without disturbing the plants.
Buckets:
Lasts 2 or more years.
More sturdy.
Can be converted to sub irrigation.
Usually uses a little less water than baskets or bags.
Disadvantages:
Small handle hard on the hands if you want to move it.
Converting to air pruning takes about an hour per bucket.
Hard to line without a 2nd bucket.
Tall plants can tip over.
Requires more space for storage.
Those are just to name a few comparisons.
As with any of those systems, nutrients can wash out.
The above are not generally well suited for you to go on vacation without some method to ensure they have sufficient water.
Being an old lady, I know how hard it is to hold the audience long enough to get to the value of the sales pitch. I wish you well, and I thank you for your insights. I've been experimenting, like crazy, being creative in the research, and you're a treasure. Thanks for this upload.
