Harvesting homegrown ginger and a few lessons learned.

Today we are harvesting homegrown ginger. Nothing can compare with the scent of freshly harvested homegrown ginger. Both easy to grow and delicious; if you haven’t grown your own, you must try this.

  1. I grew a bulb that sprouted in the kitchen, tossed in the soil….mostly as an experiment a few years back. Grew perfectly and made a huge rhizome. Never tried again, so I think I will have to try it next year.

  2. Hello Audrey, will be harvesting in the next couple of weeks.
Never done it before I was going to snap off some and leave the rest in there pots to over winter?
Have you done that before I know you have very cold winters or will you start fresh in February?

  3. Thanks Audrey, I tried and struggled last year, I've stuck it in a pot in my greenhouse at home (not on the allotment) it has been watered from the bottom, it looks huge, I did pot it on half way through, i has massive stalks coming out of it, was unsure when to harvest! I love fresh ginger, the other half not so, will deffinately give it another go next year! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. One of my absolute favourite things to eat, I put ginger into anything I can get away with, sweet or savoury โค That's a beautiful looking harvest. I keep some of mine growing indoors over winter as a house plant.

  5. It's a great plant to grow as it doesn't need a deep soil but you're right in that it needs consistency in watering, it's well worth leaving a bunch in the ground for harvesting next year too Audrey, give it a go ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒฑโ˜€๏ธ

  6. Hi Audrey, I grew ginger for the first time this year in a seed tray in the greenhouse. Our Summer was very hot so, it did dry out and didnt grow very well. My husband likes it and likes to drink ginger tea. So, im not going to give up, but, I did buy mine from a supermarket. is it better to buy from a supplier? As i want to grow it again & noticed you grew yours outside. One of the utube subscribers had a video showing how he grew his but, hadnt worked for me. would appreciate some advice if you can. Thanks for sharing and take care ๐Ÿ™‚
