You needed a bigger notch. Got er done anyway tho. π
That tree is called a widowmaker
The dead branches can fall down and kill someone be very careful and keep your eye open have your lady keep her eye open and holler if she sees anything starting to fall
You nailed it perfect job Good job
I want a mule! Log skidder, probably moves feed pallets, what cant it do? Consider putting a chain around the log and up to the flippy thing that slides sheds forward mechanically to haul the log up without rolling.
Looks like a White Ash tree, the Ash borers have decimated this species all across the East, Midwest. My friend in Northeast Pa bought a band saw rig to saw up the borer kill before it lost quality for cabinets etc. He also has some nice Cherry, he had to saw up also because of the severe storms that have come thru in the past 2 years. He also has Hemlock blow down he sawed up. Sadly climate change is damaging many tree species. Many great monument trees have been blown down, or damaged from ice storms. In the West, the drought has caused millions of acres of beetle kill in the softwood forests. This with fire damage salvage, it is sad to see magnificent views we had 20 years ago, now fire damaged scenes . Hope you can saw up those logs, and get some beams.
Thatβs Called the βHingeβ and it should be Much Larger to Insure it goes Exactly where you want to Drop it. Wind always plays a Big part also. Safety First. ππ
Lucked out.. but next time make a larger notch and deeper into the tree. Then do your back cut with the wedge to open the back cut.
Check how much strength is left in the wood to make your beams. Wish you well.
Hi Josh and Sarah! Love seeing your little ones. Great job on cutting down the tree and getting it on your trailer Josh! Hope the build goes well.

That Norwegian Spruce would make some decent lumber too.
Emerald Ash Borer killed that Ash tree

That old dead tree isn't going to make very good lumber. Good luck with it.
Best regards from Indiana.
ππ
That looked like spalted maple. Some very valuable wood if it is still good.
Junior Shed Movers!! What a Hoot!!ππ€£ God Bless! "Shed Man Walking "
You have a beautiful home and family. Be Thankful and Grateful Josh! God Bless!
Een geweldig idee top πππΌ
A dead tree like that I like to do an under cut from the bottom up helps a lot. I wouldn't doubt there's a chance of water stainage getting cut. Try predrill the holes because it's very dry. Try slabs will burn good.
You didnβt yell TIMBER!
That was scary. My FIL got hit by a dead ash that barber chaired on him. Threw him several feet into a small creek, when he got his wits about him he crawled out of the woods and yelled for the neighbor. Spent two days in the hospital and many weeks of healing because it basically skinned his arm in a 4X8 area. You did a great job!
You needed a deeper notch
Hi J & S! I must say you have the cutest kids and beautiful family! Canβt wait to see the final product.
