The Emptiness of Space at Portland Japanese Garden

“What is not there is also important. The emptiness of a space is just as important as what you fill it with”
– Michael Kondo, former Senior Gardener at Portland Japanese Garden for 40 years

Bamboo blows in the breeze while overlooking the Sand and Stone garden. Though not technically a Zen garden (since it’s not attached to a temple), the emptiness of space still invites contemplation.

Calm, peace, reflection, and stillness. Good for today and every day.
