Natures Garden By Samuel Thayer – Wild Edible Plant Book Review

Hey guys in this video we review Natures Garden by Samuel Thayer, and excellent book on foraging and harvesting wild edible plants. In this book Samuel gives an extremely detailed description of identification features with plenty of high quality pictures to help you out. The book doesn’t stop there because it gives detailed instructions on how to harvest and prepare them. Some of the plants he covers for several pages, like the acorn. The process of preparing the plants is made easily understood and is unparalleled except by a couple other authors. This book on wild edible plants is comprehensive on the 42 plants it covers, which may not seem like much but this is not a list of usable plants as the author states himself. The book has a text and pictorial glossary for botanical terms and a long list of sources and bibliographies in the back. Many book on wild edibles fall short but this book hits a home run and will be sure to teach you something for a long while to come. It’s a great addition to any set of foraging books but you might not want to lug it with you every time you forage because it is somewhat large and heavy, but that’s okay. Overall I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about wild edible plants, or even experts themselves. Written from a first hand experience this book is sure to please!

  2. I have met Sam and he is a really cool guy! Went on a few of his wild food walks and really enjoyed them.

  3. I'm going to get this book for sure. I spend a lot of my spare time reading. Thanks for reviewing this book. Your book reviews are so very helpful and appreciated!

  4. I just got his first book and even though I haven’t even finished the first one, I want to get the second one. I’m a huge beginner and also pretty young (18) so these guide books are very helpful. Idk if I’ll be able to do much foraging in college but I hope I can continue to develop this hobby.

  5. Hello, I keep seeing that this book is region specific to central North America. Is there a book that covers all areas of North America ? Or maybe could you please show a series of books that together completely cover North America ?

  6. Is this relevant for the north eastern part of us like NY,NJ, and Pa?
