Container gardening & the miracle of plant regeneration
We talk about the container gardening we started using some large pots we already had laying around. We planted Roma tomatoes and parsley. A late frost hit the tomato plants and killed the leaves, but surprisingly, they are regenerating!
Looking good. I always take off the lower stems from my tomatoes. It helps protect the plant from soil borne diseases when it rains or you water them the water hits the soil and splashes back up on the plant. I like the idea of the parsley around the bottom of the plants, it may help protect them from that splash back problem. You might be a lot drier than we are here in SC and may not have to worry about as many soil diseases.
I have most of my garden in containers. To save you some money you can use styrofoam pieces or packing peanuts instead of gravel. The perlite or vermiculite should be mixed into the potting mix to allow air and drainage. A nice potting mix to start gardening is ok, but very costly, using a large bale of peat moss with compost and potting soil will be better a 1;1;1 ratio is fine. Also if you have regular existing soil without weeds you can add to the bottom of container, at no cost. Good luck .

What a great idea..
Thanks!
Prune the old stems off and it will force the growing energy to the rest of the plant.

Thanks! That's what we did. 🙂
Thanks!
How exciting! Looking forward to the composting video.
Thanks!
Why rocks at bottomed container and what were the white beads?
The rocks help with drainage & the "white beads" are perlite…both help keep the roots from getting too wet & drowning. Good question!
