Plans to turn parts of all Chicago expressways into tollways

If you’re from the Chicago area, you know just how bad the gridlock can get.

  1. fun fact: before February 1974, the speed limit used to go up to 60 on the Edens as soon as you left Chicago city limits north of Peterson Ave. on I-94.

  2. the only good thing that came out of the tollway system was on I-90, with the tollway being expanded, the speed limit was raised to 70 m.p.h. (bus 65/truck 60) from Randall Rd. in Elgin to Elk Grove Village, and 60 mph from EGV to the I-190 junction by East River Rd. back in 2018. It used to be that the limit was 55 all the way to Randall Road and then 65 west of there.

  3. Pay for improvements? How bout they actually hit their deadlines. Any company/employee should be FIRED if they are 5 years late on their promised deadline (cough cough I90).

  4. There is a deeper issue going on no one is talking about that is driving congestion. That is congestion is the result of GROSS INEQUALITY.

The OVERCONCENTRATION of RESOURCES, INDUSTRY , INSTITUTIONS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT to one area that is the predominantly downtown and Northside white areas. Concentrating all the capital economic development on one side of the city while leaving the rest to decline and die is UNWISE . The heavy traffic is a huge result
When everyone wants to live in such a small area cause that's the only part that's desirable.

    Solution.

    1. A second downtown on the mid south side or far south that would spur massive needed gentrification.

    1. Increase access to Capital for the south side.

There has to be DECENTRALIZATTION and SPREAD OUT the ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESPURCEX ETC.

There needs to be another plan centralizong everything in one spot is a problem.

In this DEMOCRAT state it needs to be addressed GROSS INEQUALITY driving congestion.

  5. Marketing…. Chicago stuck and suck by allowing it slow Chicago life. Just awesome! Great! Increase the speed limit a little more but traffic is horrid.

  6. Bro Chicago is getting curupt af they draining tf outta our pockets🤬🖕

  7. Keep charging us for everything. Sooner or later, these sick politicians are gona charge us for breathing and walking

  8. Nothing but a money grab. Not a good idea. All that will happen is airport ubers will just congest the suburbs. I live on River Rd. and it's already an "alternative" to avoid traffic and tolls. Who ever came up with this idea clearly does not live in Chicago or commute. We the citizens better have a vote on this issue. How about improving public transportation?

  9. So where going spend more money to still be in traffic smfh gas, parking, the skyway is 6 dollar already and it's going take 10 years for another lane to be made

  10. Let me guess they got this idea from Georgia. Everyone knows how well Atlanta manages their traffic. LMAO.

  11. Wow really seriously how can that happened when they have a major government law that stopped that 1990's they were going to eliminate all tollways then kept tollways that are here in Illinois & have them protected by that law from 1990's ?????

  12. The city and the suburbs have grown so fast that the roads are overloaded at all day hours. Either make more roads, maintain more roads and increase money to fix the roads. a never ending cycle problem that every major city in the country is facing now. Look at the recent census data, demographic data and population growth of all major cities and suburbs to understand the complexity.

  13. Back in 2006, I drove on I-90 west bound. I used $27 to pay the tolls, starting from Syracuse through Chicago. That was a cup full of quarters. And gas was almost $5 a gallon back then. After Chicago, there was no more tolls.

  14. —————————— if one remembers the feds told us once a tollway was paid for ….it would become toll less…their words never came close to being true and materializing…..

  15. We have these all over Colorado. The free lanes are always clogged, while the pay lanes have barely any cars in them. It's just another scam for money, including the money from tickets from cars that don't pay to be in the toll lanes.

  16. This is what happens when you let too many be bums and not pay taxes
Government then taxes with tolls on those with jobs

  17. May not have to worry about much longer , the rate people are moving from Illinois, hopefully I’m one of them come on retirement so close

  18. This city politics and government system is dirty and crooked. Everything is going up yet the paychecks of the common people. And that can lead into bus fair going up too

  19. Control the damn shootings and crime all over the place, that’s what you should be proposing because at this rate and your ridiculous proposal, pretty soon there won’t be that many people left in this state.

  20. You all voted this in.
    Enjoy it !!!

I'm going to buy stock in those companies building and getting paid for making this.
    👍👍👍

  21. Side roads will be getting more traffic now.
Speeding down side streets will go up.
    Watch your kids.
Teach them not to play in traffic.
Oh, nevermind….parents are too busy nowadays to watch or raise their kids.

  22. If you let them privatize and mandate tolls on express lanes what do you think they won't do the same thing for regular highway.

  23. CHICAGO WILL BECOME A CLOSED CITY, WITH THE FUTURE TOLLING ON THE PLANNING BOOKS. YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY TO GET IN CHICAGO AND PAY TO LEAVE CHICAGO. THE TRAFFIC CONGESTION WILL ALWAYS CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM AROUND CHICAGO AND IT'S SUBURBS. BECAUSE THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND THE CITY OF CHICAGO ARE NOT BUILDING INTERSTATE LOOPS OR SPURS AROUND CHICAGO. LASTLY, THE EXISTING TOLLWAYS SHOULD BE ABOLISHED AND OPEN UP ALL CHICAGO ROADWAYS TO GET THE TRAFFIC MOVING EVERYWHERE !!!!!!!

  24. Lol this is great residents I'm Chicago getting screwed more and more everyday how's democrats working out for you lol

  25. Just another money grab from the democrats.drivers will just take side streets and make them worse.isnt the gas tax suppose to pay for upkeep.
