We grow plants for food year round in our off grid greenhouse. It’s been below freezing for several weeks. we need to get Planting Winter Crops In The Off Grid Greenhouse.
We decided last year to try growing greens and other vegetables in our greenhouse over the winter. Our tomato plants were killed by a freeze, but we are happy to report that we are successful growing them in our greenhouse!
Irene and Henry have been living off grid full time since 2005 on a 43 acre off grid homestead in the high desert of Northern Arizona. Situated at 5280′ elevation, we enjoy four seasons of beautiful scenery and weather about 60 miles south of the Grand Canyon.
We grow most of our green beans, peppers, yellow beans, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, squash, garlic, and herbs. Specialty crops like asparagus, sun chokes, and lavender are supplemented by foraged foods including wild ground cherries, prickly pear, and other native plants.
Electricity is made using solar panels and one 400W wind generator. We power our buildings in two groups: Irene’s studio by itself, and house infrastructure: house, greenhouse, and workshops.

Not run into a problem with getting seeds over here. Was at Lowes Monday and they were fully stocked in the garden center. The only thing we can't find is the canning jars. Sounds like you folks have something fun gonna go down for the spring. Stay safe and have a great day!
I'm with you! Last year, I'd ordered and swapped at the end of the season, and then tried finding a few that I had seen others planting? Yeah. Seeds were scarce at sowing time just about everywhere.
The same type of scenario happened here last year around here.
Seed companies overwhelmed and soil in bags etc. were limited. The supply chain I am not sure has not restructured for the increase demand.
I have just ordered my spud seed, seed trays, although the old paper pots may get a workout.
Canning supplies were non existent when we needed them. We will be watching for these for sure.

A good appraisal of the system guys. Seed companies are amalgamating all the time here in the UK too, so supply will be restricted, eventually. I am already using eBay and Amazon, more, for the few oddities that the "big boys" no longer stock.

In Arizona recreational marijuana will be legal. A Nursery owner told me they anticipate a run on gardening supplies when that happens. Oh, I was in Show Low today- Lowe’s had their seed display up!
