Austin Texas Backyard Garden Tour June 2021 – Central Texas Gardening – Growing Fruit and Vegetables

Greetings fellow gardeners, as I mentioned in the opening of my video, click this link to check out the story of how my wife left a cult and found freedom in Christ, make sure to like the video and subscribe to her channel – https://youtu.be/onU5V6ufUto

This video is a follow up to my May garden tour showcasing my backyard and front yard garden beds in Austin Texas. I made this video to share what I’ve learned from gardening in Austin Texas, and also share some creative ideas for gardening in small spaces around central Texas (Zone 8B).

I’m working with a smaller backyard, and a smaller lot in general. My home is on a 4400 square foot lot, and my backyard is 40’x16′ which is 640 square feet. In my backyard, I’ve built an in-ground bed, where I’m growing peaches, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, strawberries, habaneros, cilantro/coriander, and basil. I’ve also got a circular raised bed that I built with limestone, which contains my larger peach tree, bluebonnets, and vertical gardening with cucumber plants climbing the peach tree.

I’m also doing some container gardening using paint buckets and terracotta pots. I’m currently growing a pineapple crown, a potted avocado tree, sweet potatoes, yukon gold potatoes, and more potted peppers like habaneros and jalapeños.

In my front yard I’m trying to figure out what to do with my overgrown wildflowers and an assortment of fruit trees and vegetables including olives, apples, figs, tomatoes, jalapeños, habaneros, peas, and ornamental flowers.

Gardening in Austin Texas is super fun! Working with smaller urban spaces like mine can be difficult, but its rewarding, and I’ve had success with all kinds of fruits and veggies.

  1. Yes! Another gardener and believer. Keeo up the great work homie. Looking forward to what you post after this.

  2. Hey fellow Texan and gardener, watching from Leander. Order some organza bags to save some of your fruit. Happy growing!

  3. Yay another Texas gardener! That black and yellow beetle may be a cucumber beetle…they were my nemesis this spring, diatomaceous earth can help a little bit.

  4. Get yourself some rabbit manure. Craigslist should have a local seller. Makes everything grow right away

  5. Get free coffee grounds from Starbucks to get rid of slugs. Put the grounds all over your bed. The slugs turn white after crawling on the grounds. Coffee grounds make great fertilizer also
