Serenity Garden Tips for Plants to Thrive

Here are a few tips to help plants in your garden to thrive. One of the main tips my Master Gardener Parents always said was that plants thrive when they are removed from pots, and transplanted into the ground, provided that the soil is in decent shape. The plants thrive in soil rather than pots as they do not dry out as quickly as plants in the ground, the roots have more room to grow and spread, and the ground temperatures usually do not get as extreme as when plants are in pots – either too cold or too hot. Another tip is to try to transplant fruit trees in the ground as soon as possible because it takes at least a year for a fruit tree to recover from the transplant shock, and send out messages for the roots to spread out. Try to transplant in the late winter or early spring, or even in the fall as those are the mildest temperatures that decrease transplant shock. The plants are less likely to dry out and burn as in summer, and are less likely to freeze, and can go dormant a bit better in the soil than up in the pots in the winter. Of course you must check which plants grow best in which zones and temperatures as some plants love to winterize, and others are quite cold- or hot-sensitive. Grow plants that love heat in full sun like tomatoes in the warm whether, while brassicas do best in winter. Finally, grow chrysanthemums all over your garden to help repel pests as these flowering plants provide beauty, color, and pyrethrum to repel pesky bugs.

  1. Looks like fire blight on your 🍐 tree. Cut it off all the way back to the main stem before it overtakes the tree! 🤞
