November Small Yard Garden Tour – Front Yard

“If I had a flower for every time I thought of you… I could walk through my garden forever.” -Tennyson

Welcome to my small home garden in Zone 9b, Northern California! Today I am taking you on a tour of my front yard. My lot is less than 1/4 acre but I love it. I’m not a professional, just someone who is slightly obsessed. 🙂

  1. Your garden is beautiful! I love that Wichita juniper, may I ask where you got it? I need some icy blue in my garden. Thank you for the tour, amazing job!

  2. Just left a comment on your Plumbago pruning video from a few days ago. Found you via Garden Answer side yard video!
I didn't realize you lived in Davis. I lived in the Sacramento/Sonoma areas for about 14 years. Two of those (2005-07) were right down the road from you in Dixon! Loved living there! Quiet living, but not far from the city. I imagine that area has probably exploded by now!
Your front yard is gorgeous!! I love the structure with the espalier and the evergreens and how you defined your space with, looks like petunias. Beautiful!

  3. Those dianthus can probably be short term perennial for you if you want. Would probably last a couple of years. I'm 8b Texas and they are perennial for me (usually just a couple of summer/winter seasons) as long as they aren't in full sun. I love that you have the Breath of Heaven! There is a variety that is deeper green and grows about 3' tall. It is gorgeous when it's in bloom and sways in the breeze! I'd love to have one here in Texas, but haven't found them here and not sure they would tolerate our hot humid nights in summer.

  4. Hello! I also heard about you from Laura at garden answer….nice to find someone that lives and gardens near me!

  5. Heard about you from Laura too. Glad to have someone in my area to get ideas from. So excited for your channel. 💕 🌿

  6. You made my day today! I too heard about you from Garden Answers and was thrilled to see this video when you said you only live a farming town away from me! Let’s cheers to Growing Zone 9B! Thank you for the November tour and your top 10 beginning gardening tools video. Can’t wait to see what you have planned for spring. Do you have a vegetable garden too?

  7. Hi, I also heard about you from garden answer about small side yard. I live in zone 9b along the Sacramento river in yolo county about 9 miles from west da Sacramento. I was looking for some one in 9b so I could see what they plant. Do you send for your PW or have you found a source. Supertunia will go bananas in my yard. I also like most of plants to attract the bees butterflies and hummingbirds. I also have subscribed and will look foward to seeing you and what spring looks like.

  8. Next time you plant the giant pennisetum it would be fun to see the actual planting from the 4" pot and then see the 'monster' during and at the end of it's season, WOW what a wonderful plant particularly under your green thumb care : D

  9. Hi there!!!! Your front yard is just lovely!!!!! After watching your video I am now inspired to find a place in my yard for an espalier vine!!!! I am very curious about the evergreen you planted in the bucket (9:50). I would love to do the same, but my property is definitely not large enough to transplant an evergreen tree once it outgrows the pot. I was curious what your plans for the tree are (transplanting, keeping it in the pot for as long as it stays alive). Will it stay small due to it growing in a pot and not the ground? I really love the look and would love to give it a try!

  10. I love your multi-trunked crepe myrtle. I have one that I bought when my father passed away (I always buy plants to remember loved ones when they've passed) but mine is only a single trunk. I love the color and shade the tree provides me and the bark is so pretty.

  11. Just subscribed! I just found your channel, I saw the "9b" in one of your titles and I immediately went to watch up all your videos! I'm also a new gardener and I am a FAITHFUL watcher of Garden Answer but I often get saddened by the beautiful plants she can grow that I cannot here in Central Florida (Lake County) zone 9b.
I am so happy to have found you, I know whatever is doing well for you is likely to do well for me. I know we have a few differences, our soul is basically beach sand unless it's under a mature tree and we get a lot of rain and humidity, basically a tropical environment (however, I'm not much of a fan of tropical-looking plants, lol!), do you all get a lot of humidity? I know you all go through spells of drought as well which we don't. I can't wait to watch your garden evolve, I LOVE your ivy wall!

  12. You have restored my hope in planting daffodils in my subtropical zone here on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. The grower of my bulbs advises that their tulips should grow but their daffodils probably wouldn't, however others have told me the opposite is true! I'm so confused. I have bought some daffodil bulbs but missed out on getting my tulips this year, which is disappointing, but at least I can try daffodils. Next year I am going to do what you do, as you have had success. My biggest concern is that we have too much rain so the bulbs may rot if planted out. Thank you for this informative video.
