Front Yard Garden

September Front Yard Garden Tour – Another Heat Wave!!!

Will this summer ever end??? Today it’s another heat wave in the garden so I am doing my best to stay cool as I give you a quick little tour of my front yard garden starring “Lucky” my sweet cat. My garden has definitely struggled through this HEAT but I still have colorful ZINNIAS and beautiful Vinca too! And my Nasturtium is re-seeding as well. Just in time for Fall! Garden Happy is a small, cute and colorful garden in California zone 9b

  1. Hi Liz, enjoyed your garden tour today. I’m sympathetic about your high temperatures. We run over 105 degrees most of the summer in Tucson, Arizona, zone 9b. We’ve finally cooled off, only going to be 101 today. Vinca are my favorite’s too. They thrive so well in the heat. And they tolerate the freezing winters we have. Mexican Petunias thrive in heat and look beautiful with yellow vining Black Eyed Susan vines. If your temperatures continue to increase (hope not) these flowers will tickle your soul. Coming from the Northwest I wasn’t sure I’d adjust to the desert but I found workarounds in the garden. And learned to love okra lol.

  2. Hi! I love how your kitty is enjoying the fragrant flowers. How sweet is that 😁 thanks for sharing. Have a lovely day, even in these extremely hot 🥵 CA weather. (9a zone) Sadly, my plants have also fried.

  3. Yes Shasta Daisies are a perennial. I went to Mitchell's Nursery and they had the Shasta Daisies. I have never planted those before but I wanted to see how they will do. I put them in pots. Hopefully next Spring they will be beautiful, fingers crossed.

  4. Beautiful vinca borders. 🌸🌸😍😍😍. Your cat is living the video. So many lovely plants. That is a beautiful arch entrance. I enjoyed your colorful garden. 👏👏🌸🌸🌸🌴🌴🌴🌴

  5. Liz your gardens are still so lovely! I like your philosophy concerning the lawn, letting it be more natural and pollinator friendly. Hoping to convince my husband (who does all our mowing) to let me keep a small portion undisturbed for a season. I want to see what all may be lurking in the soil just waiting to be given the chance to pop up. Thanks so much for this tour, always enjoy seeing your feline friend, who likes to smell the flowers too! haha, so cute. BTW, I'm convinced your husband chose that beautiful tropical turquoise color for his car to compliment your garden, looks very much at home there. 🙂

  6. Flowers your cat was smelling in my State classified as weed by town council. I am growing them as flowers in my garden when I have no other plants. Extra beautiful colour to beautify garden 🌈

  7. Vincas sure love hot climate. I have like 3 vinca plants that aren’t growing at all. I would love to have gotten a free water feature like yours. Happy gardening 🪴🌸🌻

  8. I love your beautiful cat and that your neighborhood kitties drink from your fountain. So precious! Your garden is beautiful as ever. 🥰🤩🥰

  9. Beautiful morning bright sunny morning, surrounded by flowers in full bloom. such a comfortable place. greetings from Omah Kebon channel..😙🤗🤗🤗

  10. I grow hyacinth bean vine here in zone 9b in Florida and I discovered that my vine wasn’t flowering because I was giving it too much nitrogen. I cut back the feeding and it flowered.

  11. Here in Iowa my vinca is looking great!! My hyacinth bean is huge, but no blooms either!!🤷‍♀️ Last night deer came along and chewed off many of my sweet potato vine leaves and left the stems sticking up in the air!! Grrr! Your garden looks great!!

  13. Liz your front garden looks absolutely beautiful!! So pretty!! I absolutely love your front walkway borders. And i love a natural lawn too! My husband likes golf course lawn 🥴 And your kitty is adorable! I'm going to try snapdragon sowing this fall. I'm in zone 6 though so not sure how it will go. Vining plants take a long time to get going. Yes God is good!
