  1. I agree with you about trees ,my garden is not large but I've six large trees .I wanted lots of shade in June July August in my Algarve garden. And after 30 yrs they are fantastic.

  2. I agree with "doing it yourself." I spent years waffling about the paths I wanted in my garden, then one day just bought a sack of concrete mix and a pre-made plastic form and started casting my own pavers. Just like mixing cake batter (only a bit heavier!).

  3. Delightful!
I've just discovered you. Love your channel- so much truly useful info & ideas & gardening approaches.
I'm from Australia – greatly enjoyed your well researched episodes although the majority of us are coastal & do not look out onto paddocks of Roos! ( although i did as a child so, yes, is a part of out land)

  4. What a wonderful video! Iโ€™m a new subscriber and already Iโ€™m an avid viewer. Thank you!

  5. My brother and his family live in the hills outside Melbourne on a property they bought some years ago that already had gorgeous established gardens.
He's a firefighter in Melbourne and has had a review of the property done by bush firefighters and due to the threat of fire from so much drought, he has decided it's best to remove a few trees that are too close to the house. They'd prefer not to, but for safety reasons.
The lovely gold and light yellow colour are used a lot on the lovely wrap-around porches and fences in front of the homes. I've not seen that shade of colour used in any other country.

All their water for drinking, bathing or watering the garden is collected from rainwater by the gutters on all the structures on the property and is stored in large tanks. The ponds/damn are from rain that drains from the road or downhill into the pond and is water for cattle/livestock/wildlife and is also used in the event of a fire. They have no wells and his home is not on city water.

Thanks very much for sharing these lovely gardens.

  6. "And make sure that the soles of your Wellington boots match the theme of your house. And how difficult can that be?" So very cute.

  7. Is it the case I can be non observant, at times lazy minded? Yes, I can. Only, many of the designs in the video work to bring together different elements such as; the house, hard and soft landscaping, features, boundries and beyond in harmony to give a seamless overall look. I realise now many of the best designs are so good but not so dull that, at first they go unnoticed, slipping past the front part of the thinking mind entering then into one's subconcious, unless pointed out by someone having 'the eye'.

  8. Why on earth are you not wildly famous for these superb garden programs? Truly you are my favorite host on all things related to gardening. Fantastic!

  9. Such a wonderful array of garden ideas no matter where in the world the gardeners live! ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

  10. Thank you so much for the tip about my Wellingtons. I never would've thought of that one. But I'm new to gardening ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿคฃ

  11. I really enjoy to watch you channel. Great context and it is very clear you know what you are talking about. And your voice is so lovely to listen to.

  12. MSG has become one of my favourite Youtube channels. Thank you for your fine work for us, your viewers.

  13. I loved your cheeky last tip—matching your Wellington boots to your garden. Why not?

  14. Thank you for a lovely & inspirational video. I especially loved the house surrounded by its wide varanda with the yellow paintwork, not that I particularly liked the colour but it did do exactly as you said & gave a lovely, subtle harmony to the house & garden. Watching your videos in Lisbon, Portugal & so it was a treat to these Victorian gardens as we also get long dry summers here too!

  15. โ€œBe sure to match the soles of your Wellies to the color of your house!โ€ Best garden design tip ever! ๐Ÿ˜€
