Electric Gardening Equipment | Lawn Mower Blower Edge Trimmer Hedger | Ludicrous Feed | Tesla Tom

Advances in Lithium Ion technology is allowing battery-electric gardening equipment to match its fossil fuel counterparts in power and range/operating time. In this video, we chat to Sally Perini from Zeromow.com.au – a non-profit initiative aimed at creating awareness of the benefits of battery electric lawn and garden maintenance equipment and electric vehicles powered by 100% renewable energy.

Zeromow provides a free loan of cordless battery powered gardening and mowing equipment to landscape and mowing contractors, businesses and individuals. Free demonstrations of equipment and electric vehicles are available on request.

  1. Most people don't realise batteries are getting so good now that all traditional gardening equipment can be battery powered. When my Dad was looking for a new whipper snipper I told him to consider a battery one – he hadn't even thought of it and when he saw one he bought it straight away. No more fiddling with noisy 2 stroke engines, just flick the switch and away you go. Good work to Sally for helping spread the word in the gardening industry.

  2. Great video guys..Iโ€™m really liking the new videos being filmed on location rather than just in the car and with improved editing to make it concise. The editing is much much improved (and camera work much more stable than the Ioniq video ๐Ÿ˜€). Keep up the great work!

  3. Hi Tom That is very interesting, I brought a Sthil whipper snipper just over a year ago, With my health as it is, to do my whole 1/2 acre, takes about 4 tanks of fuel , I usually can last a tank full per session then I have to take up to 2 days to recover before I can go again, how I wish I had known of the electric option , I can see so many benefits of using electric to do the job , the main being you dont have a petrol engine getting in the way, filters to clean, making sure you DON'T leave any 2 stroke in the fuel tank so it doesn't go off and turn into varnish and clog the works, the noise, and so on, the amount I use my WS it will last me for years I hope But this story almost has me thinking of selling it and going electric,

For me though my main concern is as I only need it but once a year for maybe 2 weeks
how would the batteries go in lasting on such infrequent use? and that is my only other reason that I consider seriously when purchasing new tools like Drills, and so on as I dont use them often for me I still think the corded type are better for my needs, UNLESS i can have proof that something like Lithium Ion batteries will hold a charge and
usefulness from months to months without destroying the batteries.

I just had this delivered into my YouTube inbox this morning I think will blow your socks of Tom

  4. Another great video TT and brilliant to raise awareness of the work Sally and Zeromow are doing. We switched to all battery electric gardening equipment last year and haven't looked back. Living in the tropics where the grass grows thick and fast, I was curious if a battery mower could cope with the demand. Answer is – with ease! Modern gear is every bit as powerful as 2 or 4-stroke equipment and much nicer to use (lighter, less vibration, quieter and no emissions). I can even mow early in the morning (before it gets too hot here) without disturbing the neighbours. ๐Ÿ‘

  5. I like ego electric gardening equipment best, DIY up to professional equipment. Fan cooled batteries and chargers. Overkill for my garden, I just have a cheap battery electric mower.
I have a Luddite mate, who was feed up with his never starting ,easystart petrol mower, he is extremely happy with his ego mower.

  6. I use a Ryobi battery power lawn mower, I've had it for 3+ years.
    – Batteries last about 30mins of cutting then take 4+ hours to charge two batteries to use it.
    – If my grass is long, I need to put it on the highest setting otherwise it chokes and dies.
    – Starting up is a breeze but don't expect to mow your whole lawn in a day, unless you've got multiple batteries.
    – The grass catcher is also useless, so I don't bother collecting the grass clippings.
    – quiet
    – I haven't done any maintenance on it, other than cleaning underneath it if any wet grass/dirt is stuck

I wouldn't recommend it for commercial use, but for someone that doesn't want to mow the grass limiting yourself to 30mins at a time, does breaks it up. Multiple times i've left my back yard or front yard half mowed as the mower can't do the full front or back on a full charge.

  7. I just bought all battery Makita equipment for one of our vans to try out for this season.
I installed two solar panels, a voltage regulator and an inverter so we can charge while we are out cutting residential lawns.
I hope this works out ?
