Today I share this HILARIOUS moment I had with @Faith Family Homestead !!!

WE HAVE GARDEN PLANS ON PAPER 🥳. Today I’m talking about how I mapped out our space, discussed our diseased tomatoes as well as harvested some different cucumber varieties from the garden!

  1. Keep the tomatoes bottom leaves trimmed as you can see with the rain that water is splashing that soil back on to the leaves.

  2. Yes, there are other tomato varieties that are less disease prone. I'd call my local extension and ask them what your local varieties are. The extension is usually a local college or university that has an agricultural department and one specifically for master gardeners. They have all of that info for your area.

  3. If you can believe it, you can achieve it. I have a green house and had to take the cover off of it, it's too hot here- the thermogrowmeters i had inside showed 103-112 degrees. It burned up my cocnut trees, plantain, hydrangas, Banana's, etc. they couldn't survive . Check your temps with a green house- i'm in grow zone 8A and killed everything, i couldn't keep it cool enough

  4. I was fortunate to grow up living beside my grandparents and great grandparents. Each family had 3 acres of land. My Great Grandma Nancy had a one-acre garden. She literally gardened one full acre, mostly with a hoe. We did not have a tractor. We did have a tiller. I live on one acre and I cannot imagine having a garden that size! Congratulations on the graden results and the upcoming plan! I wish you much success!

  5. Hybrid tomatoes grow well and heirloom grow slow. Do you have bush tomatoes?(determinate). My slicers are doing good but are small. Hopefully I'll get a few seeds.

  6. That was our favorite cucumber as well!!! The Suyo Long and I only have one plant 😅 I wanna grow then again
I just wanna laugh over and over again at myself 😂

  7. That garden will be amazing..so happy for you. Planning is important. I can't wait to see your plans come to reality.

  8. You guys are hilarious. I am not scared of bugs but I don't want any crawling on me. A couple of nights ago there was a big black beetle in my bed. I was fast asleep and it was crawling up my arm. I woke up jumped out of bed and screamed. I almost gave my poor husband a heart attack. He put the light on and there was a very large beetle clinging to my arm. My husband took him off my arm. where I live is bug country.LOL😂 I give my plants a dose of Epsom salt diluted in 8 liters of water, this usually restores them. I also remove all yellow leaves and aerate the roots by digging around them a little. I cant wait to see your new garden area.

  9. You hav to get those yellow leaves off asap… they are terrible… will take over your whole tomatoes.

  10. Early Blight. Get a fungicide spray from Lowes, HD, etc. Make sure the the lowest most leaves are removed so watering doesn't splatter on ground then on the leaves. Remove ALL of the leaves with the brown spots and yellowing. I don't see evidence of fusarium or Verticillium wilt (thank the Gods) but could be Septoria Leaf Spot instead of Early Blight. It's hard to tell not being there. Are the brown spots like bullseyes? Sorry, my eyes aren't as good as they used to be. Either way, a fungicide is required. Remove ALL affected leaves. Make sure no further water spatter. Check for fungicide with copper. And, yes. There are varieties that are resistant to these diseases. You are in SC; I am in NC. It may be that your County Extension office has a specific list of tomatoes to plant in your area. Here, for ex, it is best to plant Better Boys, Early Girls and various German types. It might be different in SC; I am not sure. You can just google this. That's why I asked you on another vid if you can recall the varieties you planted.
I'm also going to suggest this: planting tomatoes in garden soil is risky business. You cannot know what is in that soil. Next year, or heck, even this year if you start now, grow tomatoes in 5 gallon totes with sterilized potting soil, only but still ensuring there is no ground water spatter. The potting soil may be a bit more expensive. But, you can put 2 plants in one of those totes. I had 10 totes one year, each with 2 plants trimmed to 3 vines only and had to can tomatoes I had so many. Alternatively, 5 gallon buckets from Lowes, HD or Big Lots are cheap too. It looks no stranger than having a raised garden plot in the garden heh. Forgot: if you use the buckets, 1 plant only though you can trim to 1-3 vines. I chose 3…it's a lot of pruning either way.

  11. Lol..shame on you for putting Dom on blast like that. Hilarious!! For you…you have done so so much and come so so far with your garden!! I love how you include your kids too. You are headed for greatness. To God be the glory. I can't wait to see your finished garden..but I won't dare miss the process. You are super adorable and I'm learning from you …thanks for sharing!

  12. Lol. Oh my goodness 😂 poor Dom! That’s exactly what my family and friends do to me 😂 I just told Dom how proud I am of her for getting rid of that horn worm. 😂 I can’t do it. Everything is so beautiful 😍

  13. Poor Dom!! Hahaha hilarious!! You guys are so much fun!! Everything is looking great!! Keep it up girl!! Be blessed!

  14. I have to have a memorized blueprint in my head when I start a project. So I feel you! Great idea with the north side storage. It also saves on making clear surface which can get expensive for materials. Orchard tip, trees like pear grow taller, so if you want to let them go without pruning (they are strong trees and can be climbed or ladders used) put to the northern most areas. Most Cherry trees stay under 20foot naturally. So you could use natural height if pruning would get too much. I was so proud of your girl getting her tomato worms on her own! But it brought a little joy seeing how much she dislikes creepy crawlers ❤ & made me feel so much prouder of her accomplishment, thank you for the inclusion of your sisterhood ❤

  15. I'm new to your channel, I've only watched a few videos so far and I'm really liking it so far. I came here from perma pastures farm where he mentioned yall. Happy to see more homesteaders.

  16. Here at Thunderstick Homestead we remove the whole branch if its below the fruit and just the leaf if its above the fruit. Good job yall love vids found ya via Billy

  17. Just found your channel! I LOVE IT! I love your excitement about gardening. And today you’ve inspired me to muster up the courage try other kinds of cucumbers besides what I’ve always done. You have also encouraged me to try mapping things out better.

  18. 🤣🤣🤣I don't even know how I missed this videos🤣🤣 The bloopers! Your doing a great job with the garden. I prune a lot of the bottom the leaves on my 🍅 plants for better air flow. And to help with water splashing on the leaves and causing disease.

  19. Oh you mean girl! LOL!!! I was laughing so hard at Dom trusting you so much she ran screaming! Sorry, Dom! I know a girl who spent the night in her car in a t-shirt and boots because a spider fell off the wall in her apartment bedroom, and she ran out because she didn't know where it was. My daughter was like, "of course, what else could she do?" LOVE seeing you make your garden plans.
