Hi garden babies! Thank you so much for watching! I’m sharing my big DIY front yard makeover! This front garden are of my yard was pretty ragged looking when I moved into my house a few years ago, and it has been a slow process to revitalize it. I mostly finished transforming the first half of this shade garden last summer, and my goal was to finish the other half this summer. The second half was covered in weeds and a mysterious ground cover that was so thick I couldn’t even dig around it – so we got a rototiller and decided to rototill up most of the front yard garden area so I could have a clean slate. I transplanted an azalea, and some other shade loving plants like bleeding heart and hostas into this area. I bought a couple of hostas new, but most everything was divided and transplanted from elsewhere in my yard. I decided to put down landscaping fabric on the whole front garden area to try to keep the weeds at bay and help keep the overall look of the front landscape clean. I also created a garden rock border using some stones I picked up from a local landscape materials yard. To finish the front yard makeover, I piled in plenty of bags of mulch. I wanted to make sure I laid a thick layer of mulch to give the shade garden a good foundation for keeping out weeds and unwanted roots. The mulch really took the aesthetic up a few notches and the rock border holds it all in perfectly. The front yard mulch and the garden rock border were tons of work and I was so sore the next few days. Overall, this front yard garden was a lot of work and took quite some time, but I’m super proud of how it came out and can’t wait to see how all of my shade plants start to fill it in.

  1. Oh Annie it looks wonderful. I especially like the rock border. That certainly was a lot of work. You should be proud.

  2. It looks so pretty! I love the Creeping Genny! It is so pretty with the mulch. The hydrangeas are really going to add more beauty. You've worked so hard!

  3. Love it!!! An added touch would be a large spillover flower pot at the smaller end of the creeping Jenny, so that it’ll look like it’s spilling out of the pot. 😊
