  1. Great ideas Kaye for water storage! Love the canning funnel idea to fill the jugs from a shower. Prayers for all those in the path of the hurricane.

  2. For the price, you could just buy the 2.5 gallon water containers with spouts that they sell at Walmart and Costco among others. They’re only 20lbs, rectangle and stackable.

  3. The American Maid brand water bottles are stackable and come in 3 gallons which is much more manageable. I have them stacked and stored in my hallway.

  4. I bought those big Brute gray garbage cans from Lowes. They sell for garbage, but if you turn it upside down you will find a fork, knife and a glass stamped on the bottom. They are food grade! I cleaned it out, took in the basement and using a bucket I filled that Brute up with water. Put the top on and it sits in a corner safe. I’ll take the bucket and filter thru my Alexapro when I need it. It holds a lot of water…I’ll boil first, cool and then filter.

  5. Ewww I like the stackable! I had to put our 5 gallon jugs on dollies…we have 0 steps in this house and will roll it in from the garage and across tile floors. We now have a deep well and shallow spring well with a hand pump. But our previous municipal type of water was constantly going out and then boil notice…I'm finally glad we have delicious, clean water.

  6. You share your knowledge in such an easy to understand manner. I always learn something from your videos. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Love your channel and to see other common sense, hard working, independent women in the South. You’re beautiful inside and out! 💗🌎🍀💐

  8. We have some water in storage containers. I also have a creek in front of our house and a Berkey water system with extra filters. Important information Kaye thank you.

  9. Hate to say it but here goes…..Hurricane Ian is the 2022 false flag event just like 911 inside job. Many have been predicting some kind of "attack" by the end of the month. What a way to do it using weather weapon technology H.A.A.R.P and geoengineering. I am saying this with a heavy, heavy heart. My 85 yr old dad and step mom lost everything in Ft. Myers. They only had money for two days in a hotel. The hotel they stayed at only had ground floor vacancy. Water came in they had to sit on the bed or they were walking in water. After their two night stay they slept in their van (not equipped for sleeping ie blankets etc) They were wet and cold. Now….none of the family can get a hold of them. Cell phone died. No way to charge it. We don't know where they are.

  10. Kaye, I have just discovered that the Burkee filters are not what they have reported that they are. I have had a Burkee and have used it for the last 12 years. Zero Water filters are suppose to be the best.

  11. Kaye from what i gather ,,, storm Ian has devastated large parts of Florida ,,,, saw it on news tv,,,,my heart goes out to those poor people,,,,,, "come on Mr President send help out there ",,,,, water storage "how long can fresh water be stored"
yes i can go on line a google that question but kaye i trust answers from ordinary folk,,,,,,,, anybody out there knows???
Arizona summer over 100,F,,,,,,,,, LA considerably cooler
winter round the corner brrrrrrr hows that fair,,,,,,, Ed

  12. If you bought food grade, don't be afraid of your IBC tote. They are easy to clean and sanitize, just fill it up put in a little beach let it sit then stir the water around empty, rinse, let dry in sun. Then fill it up for long term use. The minute amount of anything residual will be so diluted it won't hurt you. It's a bit of a process but, worth the effort.

  13. However, this option is a great one for storing it near where you need it. I like all the 3 gallon and garbage can suggestions in the comments too.

  14. For those w/o funds for Berkeys, just boiling water for 8 minutes is enough to purify it. Of course this means prior planning and a bit of effort, always worth it for the assurance or best practice.

  15. Being on a severe budget. I've been buying my cat litter in plastic jugs and cleaning/filling with water after using the litter. They hold about 3 gallons and are great if you have somewhere to put them. I have at least a dozen just lined up against the back of my house. If you can't boil and filter the water later, you can always use for the toilet. Keep a few inside if it freezes in your winter.

  16. Hubs bought several of those big squares-off water jugs with the taps on the side. Inside of six months every single one had leaked onto our shelving, temperature-controlled interior room! None were opened, none were visibly damaged, they were not stacked or squished. Unacceptable!
We now store regular tap water in food-grade 55-gallon blue barrels with top bungs. They were previously used to store apple essence. I bleach them out, rinse, fill, seal. We will prefilter, filter and sanitize that water before use as potable water. It can be used as-is for gardening. Even storing it in our shed (not temperature controlled), it will be fine for a year. We rotate through those barrels regularly to be sure the water is not more than a year old.

  17. So I’m very uneducated about water storage, if I fill a jug up with water and store it away, is it safe for drinking after many months or just for washing etc.

  18. Those water containers have gotten so incredibly HIGH. When I first started buying water containers I got them for like $5 each. Now, there is no way I'm buying any more. Also, if anyone is looking for rain barrels, hayneedle website has the best price I have found. I'm really happy with them. Very sturdy. The last time I bought the water jugs was early this year. I paid $60 for 3 – 5 gallon jugs. That was it for me. You are so lucky to have that cistern!! Even if it leaks…it's an amazing source to water food plants.

I watched one of those storm chasers videos this morning. He went to the eye. Crazy. He was on Pine Island. He lost his vehicle and equipment. But, he's alive thank goodness. They were cut off because of the bridge being destroyed. Prayers for Florida, all the little island countries that got it first and of course the Carolina's. Such destruction. Water…it's life. But, it is a force that can kill. Just one of those elements of nature. They can go either way. God bless you!!

  19. If you get more and have to keep them in the garage, you could turn one on it’s side and use the spout to take some water out and carry smaller amounts to other parts of the house or to the chickens, etc

  20. Very important to have extra water stored and rotated through every few weeks to keep it fresh just in case. Now, you also can have empty jugs and the bathtub and the water heater for additional use in a big emergency. You can use empty cleaned milk jugs short term and same for 2 liter soda bottles. Walmart has 3 gallon empty jugs in the actual store aisle where water bottles and filters are (not the camping aisle usually). Cheap and easy to lift for older or disabled people as 1 gallon of water is 8 lbs. If you have a big family or have a lot of storage space you can invest in 55 gallon or larger barrels, and tanks.

  21. Been off for a a while sister, eye surgery. Praise the Lord my eye is better now, new lens, the left eye needs a cornea so that will take time for me to get to. I just wanted to ask if you have your glass bottles segregated by styro-foam or some kind of foam underneath and between them to protect them in case they get knocked together so they don't crack or break. I'm sure you thought of it though, but just checking. 🙂 God bless you and your homestead critters.

  22. I bought these right after the pandemic and just change out the water once a year. I just use regular sink/ faucet water since it has some chlorine u don’t need to add chlorine. (People add a capful of chlorine to keep it from growing algae)

  23. So appreciative of being brought up in Appalachian Mountains and learning from my grandparents and being able to learn survival skills!!! More thankful for our culture and heritage all the time as we move closer to possibly the grid going down and more shortages predicted for 2023 to come but simple fact is our lives will never be as they have been not in US or whole world so all we can do is deal with it and use our brains to think and act to survive!!!

  24. Thank you, Kaye. The Lord bless and keep you. Water stored, water catchment supplies, water filtration ready. Proverbs 3:5-6. Psalm 91 over all believers.

  25. Thank you, Kaye! This was most helpful. I was wondering about something like that. I have plastic and some glass 3-5 gallon containers now but water is sure something you don't want to run out of. I also have a berkey and filters but you have to have water to put into that. I have a hard time with carrying or lifting the 5 gallon containers also. But I have a deep sink in my laundry room I could fill up and leave some in there and the garage door is right next to that. I also could fill up a few with just 4 gallons to lift to other areas of the house. I may take some of them to the water store where I go for RO water too for drinking. I live in town so no access but to city water which I don't drink or bath in, so this is a temporary solution for a month or so. I bit the bullet and bought 12 of them for a discount. Water is life! Thank you again!
