  1. The composter in the background is a really nice one. We put a bucket under it when watering in the compost so nothing goes to waste. we also found that it's much more effective to just turn the contents directly as when tumbling it just spins the materials around without mixing very much (since it usually contains lots of fibrous material).

  2. Definitely will have my saoil tested at end of winter, but my cold weather crops are now growing as we luckily have a mild winter

  3. Appreciate you, very much Melissa ..for all these Planting Lessons, Soil Tips and easy Tricks.

  4. Some people say we learn best from our mistakes or hardest times. Bull. We learn best from respecting one another, paying attention and listenning to one another's wisdom. So, thank you so much for sharing your experience, knowledge, intentions and hopes. Love your videos. Please keep learning for all of us. How important planning is, and following a wise plan.

  5. The weather here in Central Massachusetts is crazy this spring. Memorial Day weekend has always been the big garden weekend since as far back as I can remember. This year it has been so cold, especially at night, down into the 20's, that we have to go out to cover all of our cool weather veggies and all the flowers that have already bloomed. We haven't even been able to start hardening off the other plants because of the winds. It has been a bit exhausting. It is actually a good thing that I have been home because of no school, to help my husband. Many thanks for all of your videos. I am learning many new skills.

  6. Ok so I'm a newbie and I've been growing plants all year round. I live in tropical north Australia and we don't have first days up here at all. So am I ok to plant anytime like I am. I know certain plants only work at certain times just because we have extreme summers and a massive wet season (wettest town in Australia). I've had pretty good success so far (fingers crossed I continue to lol).

  7. Your presentation of your deep seated knowledge of gardening is highly appreciated. Thanks for sharing. Good job.
U are extremely very good in presentation , all natural.

  8. If you put fresh chicken manure on your garden in the winter will it kill the morning glory aka field bind weed?

  9. I enjoy your content, you are really smart.
This year I planted 3 days to early and we had a late freeze,so I lost all my plants.
I replanted my plants all back in my garden. I had seen a video where you can barely crack an egg and put it below your tomato plants. It gives them a boost in nutrition and they fare much better. I wanted to try that. I guess my puppies could smell the eggs because the next day all of my tomato plants were dug up and the eggs were ate. Now I have planted for a third time this year.

  10. Great information – we've had such a crazy spring already. 3 weeks past frost date and we got a week of freezing nights! Hoping ground will be warm enough to put pepper and tomatoes out this weekend. Enjoy your gardening series πŸ™‚

  11. Tomatoes really not happy with me. Frost 2 weeks ago in Graham Wa trying to nurse them back.

  12. Love your videos and learning more about gardening. I always have problems eating my plants, once I plant them outside. Going to try an electric fence for the ground animals, but what do you do against the birds, when you have such a large garden?

  13. Please help me. I have tried to sign up for your class and it will not accept my clicking on the button. Please add me to your weinar class.. Thank you.

  14. This is fantastic and love your homestead. This is huge help also hooray for the Pacific Northwest! I am in WA

  15. So good to see your video. I have been growing blue/lake or monte cristo pole beans for a lot of years until the gophers took out my 100+ feet so tried bush last year in raised bed. Really a disappointment. Was interested in your racks for the pole as I have been using the 16 ft panels that I bent 6' up on both sides leaving 4' in center so it was shaped like a U and then staked with T posts at each end. It worked so well and would stack after use inside of each other. Will be digging a trench and putting a hardware trough in it for my pole beans this year as I have caught 17 gophers (most weighing between 1/2+ to 3/4+ pound each). Being from the Valley in Oregon it is great to have Northwest people rather than Southern or East as it is hard to relate growing wise. Hooray for our area!

  16. I'm a first-time Gardener in Skagit County Washington, your videos are my go-to for lots of ideas on how to grow

  17. Thank you!! Very timely video. It's not my first year gardening but I did build raise boxes this year since it is getting a little more difficult for me to keep up with the weeds. I added in soil in about the bottom 1/3 of the boxes and what I thought was a very good compost. However after planting I noticed the leaves on my tomatoes and cucumbers were more yellow. So I tested the soil and there was almost not nitrogen, high phosphate and very low potassium. I added some nitrogen and working on getting the soil right. So some of the mistakes you mentioned I made this year even though I have been very successful in the past growing in the ground. Again I love you videos!!

  18. Planted my cool weather when it wasn't freezing and then within 2weeks we had a few high 80s/90s and everything bolted

  19. I have great soil and my Tomatoes πŸ… are doing good but, my cauliflower and broccoli πŸ₯¦ and lettuce πŸ₯¬ are getting attacked by bugs? What can I do??

  20. Thanks for your advice! I am taking over a bed at my mom's house in Portland, OR and making plans for planting this fall and winter!

  21. Learned this quickly about soil health. Palms are dying and just planted a nectarine. I tried watering less watering. Still dying. Did a soil test. Bingo! Had to fertilize. Test your soil and use homemade compost.

  22. First year not going too good
Probably because I'm an impatient 17 year old who's trying to do this in a tiny backyard.
I wish I could go back in time and just tell myself don't bother with raised beds at first πŸ˜₯πŸ˜₯

  23. Having challenges growing in Florida with the heat, rain and poor soil. I still enjoy your videos though.

  24. I also live in Oregon about 40 miles southeast of Eugene. I work 60 hrs a week so I haven’t gardened since 2011. This year I ordered a few grow pots. I think I’m going to really enjoy the simplicity and I ordered a hoop house. I will definitely be following you.

  25. Great video. Thanks for nice video. I think very common mistakes I have made are overwatering, crowding seedlings and not planning the garden space.
