  1. Don’t worry about going fast! I LOVE this video. This is what I’m looking for. I’m wanting to go back to school maybe or get some certification for landscaping. I’m starting with projects at home but don’t know where to start. So thank you!

  2. A classic and logical approach to the garden design! Don’t forget that you can completely transform a pretty boring house by adding a stunning garden, the house is usually the biggest feature in a garden and you might as well make the most of it. Have a look at Design Course Part 2 Sorting the spaces.🤔

  3. Anyone else noticed the East and West are inverted 🤔🤗? Thank you for sharing your method – great video 👍👍!

  4. I'm a U of Rhode Island Master Gardener and very much wanting to redesign my yard on my own. Just had my septic replaced which caused a massive amount or destruction to both my yard & landscaping. I really needed this info to help me better plan my new landscape. Thank you so much for this series. This is super helpful!!!!

  5. Hi ,I am started getting interested in garden design&landscaping.I don't know what should I start to learn?plz give me tips like what books should I read and etc?

  6. Brilliant and oh so practical! I love how you stressed that…towards the end. Initially, as beginners we are so excited but quickly overwhelm ourselves by stuffing a bunch of plants in hoping to create the beautiful space but totally forget to prioritize safety, structure, and practicality! And it helps that you have a calm and soothing tone. Thanks Yulia!

  7. Unbelievable-90% of this drawing is my house and situation! The neighbors tree is a river birch. Patio is the same’, curved front walkway, N Faced house, just about everything!

  8. I just found your channel. As someone new to gardening and landscaping this has been extremely helpful. Thank you so much for making these types of videos. I live in 6 acres so looking at the site drawing is overwhelming. I’m also on a steep slope and the previous owner took out all the bushes and left only oak trees. I made the classic mistake of buying hundreds of plants last summer during covid and just putting it all into garden beds. Now I’m looking at it and thinking I should have planned better because it’s such a large property. What do I put a wind screen on a hill?! lol. After your videos I will be digging up a bunch of plants to arrange this summer.

  9. I'm thinking of pursuing a career in green design as I think we need more of those in my country. If watching your videos is any indication, I'm actually looking forward to plan and design which is usually where I abandon my projects so new follower here! 💚

  10. EXCELLENT! This video is equal parts instructional and informational for the average home gardener looking to transform a yard into a beautiful, functional and safe home oasis! Thank you so very much for this series on Garden Design!

  11. Thank you for this. I am designing a huge garden/farm. I am on the free trial of the farmer's almanac garden planner. I love it so far but it is not cheap and subscription and I hate those subscription. Loved the days when u buy the software once and u own it. I wonder if sketchup would be sufficient. I don't know if I need the journal and reminders but they are probably going to help a lot.
When it rains hard here the ground turns to huge puddles. We are doing raised beds in those areas but I wonder if we couldn't raise the ground a few inches and install some drains. What do I do about bogginess? There is already a drain that runs around the area. We bought a monster wood chipper and have endless supply of stuff to chip up so I was thinking that I will put a thick layer of chips around the bed to help soak up the water.

  12. This is an excellent, practical, understandable method! Thank you for making a daunting process less so. On to Part 2! ~ Lisa

  13. Are you also wanting to take into account water runoff and water drains? And this is in regards to the initial plan?

  14. Biggest takeaway: Norway Maples are evil spirits intent on mischief and murder 😳 😂

Thanks for this, I'm excited to start planning!

  15. You did an excellent job explaining the process of design, & considerations, especially highlighting the neighbors pretty tree. But it’s a shame that water harvesting is not taught commonly. Diverting the low spot & gutters to a rain garden is so much better for the environment than drain tile. You’d be shocked to know how much damage to waterways we’ve done by treating water like garbage, collect/ drainage ponds, which isn’t filtered by compost rich soil and plants…

  16. I’m so grateful to have found you!
Perfect mix of common sense & expertise which I need😄

  17. WOW .. GREAT VIDEO !!! .. can't wait to watch the rest of them !!! starting with a bare yard!! nothing but a house on it. lol
I'm hoping the other videos will cover things like What I can plant. and what can plant next to what etc. I think that's my major issue? All I know is I want Lavendar planted. cuz it attracts hummingbirds, and Deer and rabbits don't like it. so I'm putting that around the back of the property so they animals will stay away from my vegetables etc.

  18. Hello, the green pad with the squares that you lean your paper on, what is it called? I have been trying to find one to order online!

  19. This is so simple yet so informative, I will be finishing off the series. I have just acquired a property with a large garden, it will definitely need to be phased. Thanks for generously sharing. I would have wanted to see the questions you ask your clients before starting, but I do understand that somethings have to be reserved for your paying clients. If it is possible to create a link to download on a pay basis, that would be great

  20. Thank you, this is SUCH an amazing explanation of the process, so much more substantive than youtube tends to be, and so much easier to understand than when I've tried to read books on the subject. I am soaking this up like a sponge, I cannot wait to apply it to my own garden!

  21. Thank you so much for your video. We live in zone 6b, in the high desert of Nevada. We get about 7-9" of annual precipitation, have hot summers, cold/dry winters and high pH soil. Our home is an old ranch that sat vacant for 5 years, in which time all of the original landscaping and mature trees died. We have now been here 5 years and I have been buying plants just like you said! I buy them because I love them either for their color or variety but have no plan on where I'm going to put them. It has cost me a lot of money over the last couple years because many have died just sitting in the container.

  22. This is so helpful and encouraging!!! Thank you!!! I feel overwhelmed. I am looking at a blank slate, which is good and bad. It is good because I can theoretically do many things, but it is bad because I do not know how to get started. Your video has helped me so much!! I love that you said think big but start small. Just talking about doing the site survey and then a site plan help to focus me on how to start. Getting started is so difficult if you are a total novice like myself. Thank you so much!! I look forward to screening more of your videos!! You are a wonderful teacher!! 😀
