In todayโ€™s video I was able to plant a group of gorgeous things! Being so recently back home from The Grand Garden Show on Mackinac Island means Iโ€™ve been freshly inspired to plant and add more interest, more texture and more color to our garden. One of my big takeaways from the show was how important the use of ground covers is in making a garden look full, lush and cool, so one of the perennials I added today was โ€˜Biokovoโ€™ Hardy Geraniums that grow 8โ€ tall and 18โ€ wide, multiplying itself, hopefully allowing me to divide and replant sections of it in the future to further fill in the area under the juniper tree on the west side of our house. I also planted a few โ€˜Harlequin Blueโ€™ Scabiosa (Pincushion Flower) along the brick walkway on the west side of our house. Scabiosa are one of the hardest working perennials I have in my garden- they provide continual color and food for the pollinators. Itโ€™s been awhile since I had planted in that area, so close to the house. I really enjoyed it.

I, of course, had to add a few things to the South Garden as well. I needed to remove a Haywire Cypress that was not thriving in its spot and replaced it with a Pacific Blue Macedonian Pine. It was a much needed change in color for the area it ended up in and will fill in beautifully as it matures (mature size is 20โ€™ t x 15โ€™ wide). Pines typically do well in our area. The last group of plants added were some new roses for 2023- Ringo Double Pink. They have the perfect mix of delicate pink to a smoky deeper pink with bright yellow stamens which make the flowers look like they glow! The best thing about them, though, is that they donโ€™t require regular maintenance (deadheading) and they stay on the smaller side, growing only 2-3โ€™ tall and wide.

I had a great morning in the garden, planting and enjoying the cooler temperature! Click the link to watch the full video! ๐Ÿ’š https://youtu.be/-zFzk29xgEA
