I am in Maryland Zone 7. Don’t have aged straw? Substitute with… dried grass, compost that isn’t fully broken down, or use shredded leaves. Anything that is dry and brown. Fall gardening starts in August in many areas. I cover 5 crops (Peas, Radishes, Lettuces, Spinach & Beets) to direct sow in August and how you can fill raised beds cheaply and have them ready for planting your cool weather crops this fall.
