Don’t get us wrong, we love a cozy shed as much as the next homebody: These little structures are a genius place to stow gardening tools or even hang out, provided you throw in some cozy decor. But is it possible to actually live in one of these tiny spaces?
Sometimes, you can. We spotted a modern tiny home from Chery Industrial on Walmart, which might be the most livable shed we’ve seen yet. The industrial-looking cabin is roomier than most sheds, at 96.2 square feet. Plus, the heavy-duty steel frame can support a snow load of 42 pounds per square foot and up to 46 miles per hour, so it can hold its own against the elements.
There’s also a working window: You can even add a screen and window shade for extra comfort. But what really caught our attention is the petite washroom, complete with a small sink and a shower.
Also included are wood-plastic plain gusset floorboards, a compact cupboard, and designated spaces for top lights give this shed a homey feel. (That said, if you want to add plumbing or electricity to this small space, we highly recommend hiring a professional.)
While Chery Industrial’s tiny home could easily become an office, home gym, or a kid’s play area, it comes with a 60-inch by 79-inch bed dimension that makes it a pretty awesome crash pad. You know, almost like a studio apartment where guests, in-laws, or an older kid could retreat to for some alone time.
The catch? Sheds are notoriously expensive, and this one’s $18,000 price tag might elicit some sticker shock. But remember: Some people think an accessory dwelling unit, or ADU, can increase your home’s value by up to 34%. So if you can create a fully functioning, livable shed, it might be one of the best investments you can make.
