Saint Urban’s, the cosy European-inspired wine and cheese bar in the I’On neighbourhood of Mount Pleasant, just across the bridge from Charleston, has expanded its considered offering with the opening of The Garden, a beautifully designed outdoor courtyard for private dining, events, and curated culinary experiences.
Created by founders Warren Johnson and Chad Besenfelder, Saint Urban’s has become a destination for those who appreciate thoughtful design as much as exceptional food and wine. Inspired by the timeless cafés and wine bars of Europe, the 350-square-foot interior demonstrates how intelligent design can transform even the smallest footprint into a memorable experience.
At its centre sits a marble bar with just twelve seats, creating an intimate setting where guests can enjoy a rotating selection of international wines alongside farmhouse cheeses, artisan charcuterie, tinned seafood, and rare chocolates sourced from around the world. Banquette seating with custom cushions and velvet pillows runs the length of the room, cleverly concealing wine storage beneath. A striking red meat slicer brings character to the bar, and a sleek Gemm refrigerated cabinet, the only one of its kind outside Europe, elegantly displays the week’s selection of cured meats and cheeses.
Now, Saint Urban’s extends that atmosphere outdoors with The Garden, a secluded courtyard that continues the venue’s distinctly European character. Brick paving, climbing greenery, and olive trees create a peaceful backdrop, while banquettes finished with basil-green cushions sit alongside classic Giardino teak chairs beneath softly glowing table lamps. A fully retractable awning and dedicated outdoor bar allow the space to operate independently, making it equally suited to small celebrations or larger private gatherings.
When not reserved for exclusive events, The Garden will host an evolving programme of chef pop-ups, winemaker takeovers, and special evenings curated by Johnson, with occasional regular service bringing even more guests into the experience.
Combining thoughtful design with an ever-changing food and wine offering, Saint Urban’s continues to prove that exceptional hospitality is never defined by size, but by atmosphere, craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
