BioPark leaders have a plan for a “Dreamland” with a rainbow path and vortex and more planned for it.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — It is going to be a bittersweet weekend at the BioPark Botanic Gardens where you will have your last chance to enjoy the Children’s Fantasy Garden.
The Fantasy Garden will close to the public next Tuesday after opening in 2001. BioPark leaders estimate more than 12 million visitors have explored the whimsical wonderland there since it first opened.
“The BioPark is the number one most visited tourist destination in the state. So I think we have a responsibility to make sure our facility is the best it can possibly be because we know the most people are coming here,” said Allyson Zahm, former guest experience manager at the BioPark.
BioPark leaders are set to do a $5.5 million makeover to turn the garden into Dreamland. It’ll introduce a new rainbow path and rainbow vortex feature, along with a troll garden, an interactive treasure trail and a walk-in crystal geode structure.
The beloved dragon statue and castle tower at the front of the fantasy garden is staying put. BioPark officials expect the remodel to be finished in summer of 2028. The rest of the botanic gardens will remain open during construction.
