How the right landscape design can bring your backyard vision to life

The right landscape design doesn’t just change your yard, it changes how you feel about coming home

Somewhere between the curb and the property line of every home is a section of yard that has been going unappreciated for years.

It looks tidy enough – a sturdy fence, perhaps a flower bed or two – but it is undeniably a dead space that rarely sees much life outside of a stray bird or bee.

“Most of us can look out a window and see the unfulfilled potential of our outdoor spaces, but knowing how to fully conceptualize and then execute that vision is a different story,” says Tonja Andreatta, owner of Andreatta Waterscapes.

Andreatta grew up on her grandparents’ farm overlooking Emigrant Lake, fishing in the pond as the Rogue Valley’s orchards and wetlands shifted around her.

That relationship with the land is what she brings to every project and what she strives to help her clients find in their own backyards.

“We’re very lucky to live in a beautiful place like the Rogue Valley and the value in creating a space where we can enjoy nature on a near-daily basis while at home is immense,” she says.

“The right yard should soothe your senses, welcome beneficial wildlife and offer a calming escape from the stress of day to day life.”

For Andreatta, every consultation is an exercise in listening.

“For me, every consultation is an opportunity to help someone solve a problem,” she says.

A play area that keeps kids busy outside with a quiet corner for the adults. Moving water and native plantings that draw life into a forgotten corner. A wellness space anchored by a hot tub or cold plunge, built for the kind of reset that used to require a weekend away.

The vision is different for every property and every family, but uncovering it starts with the same conversation about the land, the people and what they actually want to feel when they step outside.

Fall is the perfect time to start that conversation.

The summer heat has eased, the rain hasn’t arrived yet and the cooler temperatures are exactly what newly planted trees, shrubs and perennials need to build strong roots before winter.
