The Alliums, or onions, contain species that aren’t just for your vegetable garden. Three species that are native to South Dakota include Allium canadense (wild garlic), A. stellatum (prairie onion), and A. textile (textile onion). The textile onion is present at the Prairie Butterfly Garden at the Oahe Downstream Recreation Area.
