For the second straight day, the National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for multiple counties across the state because of the threat of strong storms with damaging wind gusts, dangerous lightning and localized flash flooding.
Saturday’s thunderstorm watch, effective from now through 11 p.m., covers all of New Jersey.

And just like the fierce storms that swept across many areas of the state on Friday, new clusters of thunderstorms on the Fourth of July holiday are expected to generate strong bursts of wind as powerful as 60 to 70 mph in some locations.
Friday’s wicked winds knocked down scores of trees and electrical lines across the state, leaving more than 240,000 homes and businesses without power.
The outage total dropped to 177,000 by Saturday morning, and utility crews were scrambling to repair as many downed lines as possible before the new wave of storms arrive.

On top of the new thunderstorm threat, New Jersey is bracing for its third consecutive day of extreme heat and high humidity, with afternoon temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s and possible triple digits in some areas.
The high humidity will make it feel as hot as 110 degrees.
On Friday, regular air temperatures soared to 104 degrees in the Atlantic City area as well as Cape May Court House, East Brunswick, Egg Harbor Township, New Brunswick and Woodland Township.
