Sugar baby melon. It was baseball sized in mid July. The tendril isn't dry, so I've been waiting, but I think it may be overripe now because it's turning yellow on the topside.
It doesn't have a field spot, probably because it didn't touch the pot for the first month it was around- it's on a trellis.
Thoughts?

Ooh this is interesting since like you said, no field spot. Based on the photo and my experience with sugar babies, here are my thoughts…
You probably already know this, but with sugar babies, the tendril usually dries 7 to 10 days before peak ripeness. And your tendril is still very green.
With that in mind, the yellowing *might* be just from sun exposure, but it’s hard to say, since the spot isn’t smack dab right on top of the melon.
I think the most reliable way to check this melon would be the blossom end press test. Press gently on the end opposite the stem. Firm = not ready yet. Slight give = ripe. Mushy = overripe.
Lastly these melons get more of a dull green exterior when ripe and I think yours is approaching matte, but still, hard to say… I recommend the press test and see what you discover!
Mine got yellow on top from exposure to the sun. It had nothing to do with ripeness.
